Last week was manic 🤯

Busi headed off on maternity leave, Nondu jumped in for a few months (straight into the deep end, learning on the fly), and—because we clearly don’t sit still—we decided it was the perfect time to do a little renovation and refresh part of the café.

For the last decade, we’ve actually been a little selfish.
Yup — you read that right. We’ve been gatekeeping Ground from you in the evenings. It’s just too beautiful at night… and we didn’t want to share it.

But after a bit of conviction (and maybe some repentance), we’ve realised something important: Ground belongs to its people. And you deserve to experience the magic we get to see after hours.

So, as of today, Ground is officially opening its doors for evening events, activations, celebrations, and general venue hire.
Do we know exactly what this will look like? Nope — not a clue.
Are we excited to see what you dream up? Absolutely.

There’s really nothing more wholesome or nostalgic than a toasted sarmie.

Most of us grew up on sandwiches in one form or another — and if you took a moment, we’re pretty sure you’d find that core memory tied to the one your ouma made on the weekends, or the one mom or dad packed for school.

With a meal that carries so much innocence and warmth, we didn’t want to shy away from the humble sarmie — we wanted to celebrate it.
To take something simple, and reimagine it for a more mature palate.

A lesser-known fact: the Moccamaster was born in the 1960s from a Dutch engineer’s pursuit of precision and durability. What started as a passion project has since become the global benchmark for high-quality filter coffee, bridging the gap between home brewing and specialty café standards.

It’s a fitting connection for us—one of our founders, Craig, is an engineer by trade who left a career in the automotive industry to chase a similar goal in coffee: precision, consistency, and quality in every cup.

They are not professional models or friends we roped in for a photo shoot to create a ‘vibe’.

They are real customers, having a real experience and we so enjoyed the opportunity to be apart of it.

Trying new things can lead to wonderful outcomes. These ladies took the lead and tried our new Iced Matcha’s. They are not on the menu but if you ask the team at the counter they’ll whip you up one of our Peach or our Blueberry Iced matcha’s.

Over the past few weeks we’ve been making some gradual changes to our offerings, specifically around the food.

Now that we’ve launched a complete new range of baked items and now we are leaning into our savory selection.

We’re going to be dialing it right back and starting with a very basic selection of amazing items, starting with our salads (which are a first for Ground and available from today). As the current menu phases out and we bring in new and exciting options know that this is only the beginning of what we have to offer.
