Uvongo Parkrun Historical Events: #487 (2)

From time to time, the Uvongo parkrun page will feature "On This Day" memories from Uvongo parkrun events that have taken place in the past, this with thanks to followers of the Uvongo parkrun page that have made their photographs and/or videos/reels available to be shared here.

This, the eighth of the "On This Day" featured memories is from the Uvongo parkrun event #487 which took place 2 years ago today, on the 1st June 2024, and will be shared in two parts, the first by the way of photographs taken on the day, and the second, by way of a video/reel covering the event. Both posts are with thanks to Bradley King.

The Uvongo parkrun event #487 attracted a field of only 173 parkrunners on the day and the late Tony Berry was found running all over the place that morning as he usually did week after week..... on this occasion from helping with setting up the Uvongo parkrun course to then taking it upon himself to bringing along a broom from home and giving the Uvongo parkrun storeroom a much needed clean by sweeping it out, to then marshalling at the very start of the course only to finish that on time to ready himself to be handing out the tokens to the finishing parkrunners..... it didn't stop there as once the parkrun was over and done with, Tony, as always, stayed behind to assist with taking down the course and packing things away in the storeroom that he had just cleaned earlier that morning.

In the "On This Day" video memory of this event, Bradley King can be heard saying to Tony Berry that his job never ends, and this was just one of many "On This Day" memories that shows that never was a truer word spoken when it came to Tony Berry..... loved & remembered always, we pray that Tony will forever continue to R.I.P 🙏

Uvongo Parkrun Historical Events: #486 (2)

From time to time, the Uvongo parkrun page will feature "On This Day" memories from Uvongo parkrun events that have taken place in the past, this with thanks to followers of the Uvongo parkrun page that have made their photographs and/or videos/reels available to be shared here.

This, the seventh of the "On This Day" featured memories is from the Uvongo parkrun event #486 which took place 2 years ago today, on the 25th May 2024, and will be shared in two parts, the first by the way of photographs taken on the day, and the second, by way of a video/reel covering the event. Both posts are with thanks to Bradley King.

The Uvongo parkrun event #486 attracted a relatively small field of only 118 parkrunners on the day, not too surprisingly so as we had quite a bit of rain on the Friday night with it still looking very overcast on the Saturday morning of the event, with rain looking very likely to occur whilst the event was taking place, which in fact was exactly what happened, leaving many of the parkrunners and volunteers soaking wet, apart from of course those that chose to bring along umbrellas or walk/run in wet weather protective wear.

Due to the persistent rain, the parkrun course was naturally rather wet, muddy and slippery, the reasons for so many of the parkrunners deciding to give the event a miss, and there were a couple of falls on the day because of the wet conditions, but luckily, without any serious injuries being recorded.

Uvongo Parkrun Historical Events: #539 (2)

From time to time, the Uvongo parkrun page will feature "On This Day" memories from Uvongo parkrun events that have taken place in the past, this with thanks to followers of the Uvongo parkrun page that have made their photographs and/or videos/reels available to be shared here.

This, the sixth of the "On This Day" featured memories is from the Uvongo parkrun event #539 which took place 1 year ago today, on the 24th May 2025, and will be shared in two parts, the first by the way of photographs taken on the day, and the second, by way of a video/reel covering the event. Both posts are with thanks to Bradley King.

The Uvongo parkrun event #539 attracted 223 parkrunners on the day, with a few of the standout features being that it was the event at which Yvonne Hopkinson achieved her milestone of having completed 450 parkruns, and the Run Director for the event, Marius Bergh, very quietly achieved his 50th volunteer milestone. Parkrunner Patrick Riley, whom at the age of 83 years old, also achieved a personal best time at this event - he has since gone on to better this time on another two occasions during June of the same year, and continues to be a regular at our weekly Uvongo parkruns. Lastly, but not least, it is believed that it was at this event that our newly made key holder board, made for the Uvongo parkrun by the late Tony Berry, was used for the very first time, and continues to still be used today - Tony Berry did so much for our Uvongo parkrun so it is not at all surprising that his name often crops up in these "On This Day" memories, we pray that he will forever continue to R.I.P.

This video is with thanks to parkrunner Lawrence Van Wyk who took part in the Uvongo Parkrun Event #592, and after finishing his parkrun, took 10 short videos which he has shared with Uvongo parkrun. The videos were in turn edited to form the video shared here in this post. Thanks Lawrence for all the video footage - it was greatly appreciated 👍
