Meet the divas of the orchard. 🌰✨
They need 5 years before they're ready to contribute, demand 8 metres of personal space, and are constantly being bothered by pests with names like Nut Borer and Stink Bug.
To make things even more complicated, they come in different varieties: A4, A16, Nelmak 2 and 816.
Growing macadamias isn't just farming. It's part science, part patience, and part negotiating with very demanding trees. 🌳😄

At this point, we’re convinced he has unofficial ownership of at least five garden chairs and one patch of sunlight. ☀️🌿

Some guests check in.
Some simply return.

The staff already know his favourite spot before he’s even settled in, and somewhere along the way, the lodge started feeling a little less like a getaway and a little more like home.

The greatest compliment a lodge can receive isn’t a five-star review — it’s watching someone return often enough that they become part of the place itself. 🤍

Safe to say, that corner of the lodge is officially his now.

Every year, just before winter begins to tighten its grip, the hornbills arrive like wandering storytellers from another chapter of the wild. 🖤✨

Species like the African Grey Hornbill are known for their nomadic nature, travelling in lively flocks as they search for food during the colder months. And somehow, for a little while, this becomes part of their map. Trees fill with chatter, wings flicker between branches, and the mornings feel a little more alive.

There’s something comforting about knowing even the birds gather where they feel there’s enough to keep going.

So if you’ve visited us lately and heard the noisy little committee meeting happening in the trees… congratulations, you’ve officially been welcomed by the winter flock. 🐦🍂
