Did You Know?
King Cetswayo ka Mpande beat the British Empire in open battle.
At the Battle of Isandlwana (22 January 1879), Cetshwayo's forces inflicted Britain's worst-ever defeat, when a column was destroyed by the Zulu a rare and stunning victory for an African army over imperial Britain, achieved with spears and shields against modern rifles.
