Why such a strangely specific distance? Surely just saying **3 miles** would have been sufficient.

To make matters worse, when I first saw the sign, I read it as **2,928 miles**, which seemed rather excessive. šŸ˜‚

I often see **ā€œDO NOT PUSHā€** written across the rear gate of dump trucks, and I’ve always wondered why.

Are there rogue members of the public wandering around pushing dump trucks from behind? Is it some kind of strongman challenge? Or is the warning actually intended for other heavy equipment?

I’m sure someone here drives dump trucks for a living and can finally solve this mystery. The explanation will probably be wonderfully dull—and may ruin the fun the next time a dump truck shouts at me in capital letters. šŸš›

I discovered tonight that the town of Dull is officially paired with the town of Boring.

And naturally, anyone making the journey between them would be expected to drive carefully.

It would be terribly exciting otherwise. šŸš—

I got far too excited about this and didn’t know where else to share it. šŸ˜‚

I parked at the supermarket, went inside, and came back about 30 minutes later to find the car on the right parked beside mine.

Same car. Same colour. Registration number only one digit apart.

What are the chances? šŸš—šŸš—

My dullest and wildest dreams came true this weekend when we accidentally stumbled across Dull—quite literally.

The true highlight, however, was discovering that Dull is paired with Boring, Oregon. It makes perfect, beautifully dull sense. šŸŒ

I was completely unprepared for such a wonderfully mundane discovery, so there was no time to find a banana for scale. I’m also slightly concerned that a Highland safari may be far too exciting an attraction for a place called Dull.

Female, 24, size 7 shoes. I’ll now be carrying an emergency banana at all times, just in case I encounter any future dull discoveries.

I’ve driven past this place hundreds of times over the years, but I’d never been stopped at this exact spot before.

While riding home from a Connecticut lunch run, I got caught in a massive traffic jam caused by some kind of construction issue. I ended up sitting here for several minutes—and, for the first time, noticed that this car has something rather unusual about it. šŸ‘€

Spotted near Wampum Corner in Wrentham, Massachusetts. šŸļø

I work independently and spend a lot of time driving, which gives me the freedom to make little detours and stops throughout the day. As a result, I know where every thrift store in my area is—and which ones consistently have the good stuff.

My favorite things to collect are small kitchen appliances. They’re always the first section I check, and I actually use all of them. At this point, my oven has mostly been reduced to baking pizza.

I’ve also been trying to rebuild my collection after losing everything last year when my idiot neighbor burned down the entire apartment building I was living in.

Today’s find is this smokeless indoor grill, pictured next to another great score from a few months ago. It’s perfect for anyone who likes a little char on their food without repeating the irresponsible decisions of my former neighbor. šŸ˜…

It’s in excellent condition and even came with a removable griddle plate. I looked it up, and it normally retails for around $180–$250. The price tag said $20, which I was already happy to pay, but the cashier informed me it was green-tag day and everything was half off.

Final price: $10. 🤯

The dual air fryer beside it usually sells for around $150–$180 new, and I picked that up from the same store a few months ago for $20. Not pictured is the Ninja blender I found there a few weeks ago for only $15.

So, by visiting this store regularly, I’ve managed to pick up roughly $450 worth of kitchen equipment in excellent condition for a grand total of $45—and that doesn’t include all the other things I’ve found there.

Male, 44, size 17 shoes—and no, that is not an exaggeration. I ate the last banana this morning and haven’t been back to the store yet. šŸŒ

Six months ago, I was driving from my then-home in Sacramento, California, to our soon-to-be new home in Portland, Oregon.

The final northbound exit on Interstate 5 in California is Exit 796, meaning it is approximately 796 miles—or 1,281 km for the metrically inclined—from San Ysidro and the California–Baja California Norte border with Mexico.

I was fairly certain this was the highest-numbered mile marker or exit in the United States, and I confidently shared this delightfully dull fact on social media.

Unfortunately, I was wrong.

Interstate 10 stretches approximately 880 miles—or 1,416 km—across Texas, from the Louisiana border to the New Mexico border. I was slightly disappointed, although California’s Exit 796 is still respectably close to the top.

Male, 47, US size 12 shoes. All bananas were seized by the California Department of Agriculture.

According to ChatGPT, it would take more than 7.2 million bananas laid end to end to cover the length of Interstate 5 through California. šŸŒ

This is clearly not from either side of the Atlantic. In my country, in the so-called Global South, we tend to secure anything left in a public or shared space.

It’s not necessarily a reflection on the people—it’s simply a way of making sure everything is still where it should be when you return. šŸ˜„

So, in hotel rooms, you may find televisions behind cages, desk phones secured in place, toilet cisterns enclosed, and sometimes even light bulbs protected by steel cages.

We usually provide a safe for your valuables too.

Please use it. šŸ˜‰

This may be too dull even for this group, but why do utility companies sometimes leave large loops in overhead wires?

I’m referring to the loop above the Sprinkle Road sign and the other one that looks as though it’s trying to lasso an electrical pole. It’s not exactly attractive.

Spotted at the corner of Gull Road and Sprinkle Road in Kalamazoo, Michigan. A Shell station can be seen in the distance advertising fuel at $3.29 per US gallon, which works out to roughly $0.87 USD per litre or $1.21 CAD per litre. That’s all the converting I have time for—and there is no banana.

**Edit:** This has now been answered by several knowledgeable people. They are expansion or slack loops, left in the system to provide extra cable for future inconveniences such as falling trees or accidents that damage a pole. They are often arranged on devices called ā€œsnowshoes,ā€ which make them look slightly more organized.

Thank you for all the correct answers—and for unexpectedly bringing a large number of Midwesterners together for a love fest.

**Edit #2:** Someone was deeply troubled by the lack of scale, so I have added two hand-drawn bananas. Admittedly, the closer, fatter banana appears to be three bananas side by side because my fingertip lacks the precision required to draw two tiny black lines. Given its width, it may actually be a plantain.

I’m particularly proud of the second one. šŸŒ
