Volunteer Coffee Bay Work within the community of the isixhosa people of the Transkei (Eastern Cape) A full cultural experience with amazing views awaits you....

Volunteers will work and live within the community of the isixhosa people. Areas of concern:
1. Teaching English and Mathematics to the pre school children. Hygiene and healthy living.
2. Perma-culture gardening is taught at the center and the
volunteers will set up gardens in various schools on the
perma-culture principles.
3. Sports, Soccer and Netbal with the community teams.
4. T

eaching basic life skills such as building, carpentry and
other aspects of sustainable living is the aim of the project.

We were given a whole supply for our first aid kit a week ago! All stocked up on medical supplies if a child decides to be a child (untamed and wild). In fact, we could probably treat a whole school of bruises, scrapes and cuts.

Yesterday afternoon Herb and I collected wood from the Mill in Mdumbi. Although the bridge was not completely repaired, Herb's Landie got us there and back. Today, after a good breakfast, we will start preparing the wood for the chairs and tables for Good Hope Pre School.

Arrived in Coffee Bay yesterday afternoon after traveling for 22 hours. This afternoon a meeting will held with Selina from Good Hope Pre school and Nomaphuzi from Mawotsheni Community Project. Nhaza will join us to assist with transport and equipment needed for making furniture.
It feels good to be back working together again.

Volunteer Coffee Bay is currently working in conjunction with Stichting Willen en Doen in Amsterdam to raise funds for The Good Hope Pre School. We will post the fund raising event details early next week. If you are in Amsterdam around the 10th of September come join us for a social evening of fun at Cafe Diep.

Volunteer Coffee Bay has stepped away from the Willen en Doen Foundation and will be acting as an independent organisation. Volunteer Coffee Bay will be registering as a Not for Profit Organisation. We will still be operating from within the Coffee Bay region doing skills and crafts with locals. Our aim for the coming year will also be directed at recycling and gardening.
