Ouma Isie's Tea Garden was built in 1976 as a memorial for Isie K Krige the wife of General Jan Smuts. She was a remarkable woman who spoke 8 lanuages with a wide range of interests. As prime minister's wife she became world famous because of her dedication to the Gifts and Comforts Fund, raising millions of pounds for South African troops during WW2. She became known as "Ouma" under the troops of

the Common Wealth, a name she cherished. The tea garden is affiliated with the Smuts House Museum to preserve the legacy of General Jan Smuts and his wife Isie K Krige.

Dolly Parton het haar lewe en loopbaan daaraan gewy om vreugde, lag, hoop en opregtheid te bring in alles wat sy aangepak het. Haar vrygewigheid het die lewens van tallose mense geraak—mense wat sy nooit sou ontmoet nie—maar tog was sy altyd daar om ’n helpende hand te verleen.

Dolly het haar nooit by politiek laat intrek nie, maar dit het nie beteken dat sy sonder oortuiging was nie. Op haar eie sagte, toeganklike manier het sy boodskappe van hoop, menswaardigheid, aanvaarding en deernis aan miljoene mense regoor die wêreld oorgedra. Sy het nie gepreek of veroordeel nie. Sy het eerder aangemoedig om te droom, meer leer, om te gee en méér te wees.

En nog iets tref my: ’n mens hoef nie eens na een van Dolly se liedjies te luister om iets te voel nie. Net die gedagte aan haar roep reeds ’n besondere warmte, ’n glimlag en ’n stille gevoel van begrip in jou wakker—asof sy jou op een of ander manier geken en aanvaar het, presies soos jy is.

Vir ons was sy nooit bloot ’n wêreldberoemde ster nie. Sy het gevoel soos daardie geliefde tannie wat onverwags vir ’n koppie tee opdaag—skitterend aangetrek, gereed met ’n guitige grappie, maar ook met genoeg tyd om te luister, saam te lag en, wanneer dit nodig was, saam te huil.

Sy het mense wat sy nooit ontmoet het nie, laat voel dat hulle tog aan haar behoort.

Kan jy jou indink hoe I Will Always Love You—Ek sal jou altyd liefhê—in Afrikaans sou klink? Nie bloot as ’n vertaling nie, maar as ’n opregte Afrikaanse huldeblyk aan ’n vrou wie se woorde, warmte en musiek geen taalgrense geken het nie. Laat dit ’n uitdaging aan ons kunstenaars wees om haar musiek met eerbied, gevoel en oorspronklikheid in Afrikaans te vertolk. ❤️❤️❤️
