The third and final day of technical sessions is underway at the 13th CRI Citrus Research Symposium! 🍊

Catherine Savage, Technical Manager: Citrus at Capespan, attended the Symposium, held at Champagne Sports Resort in KwaZulu-Natal from 23–26 August 2026.

Reflecting on the event, Catherine shared:

Team Capespan took on the Virgin Active HYROX Corporate Relay and achieved an impressive second place in the Mixed Category, completing the challenge in 1:15:10! 💪

Vineyard Update | Namibia 🍇

The new table grape season is beginning to take shape at Namibia Grape Company (NGC), with the vineyards showing encouraging early progress.

Bud break in the early cultivars is approximately two days ahead of the 2025 season, although overall timing is expected to remain broadly in line with last year. Bud break is progressing normally, with particularly positive early development in RUBY RUSH® and Flame Seedless.

Overall, the NGC team remains positive about the progress in the vineyards as the new Namibian table grape season develops.

On Thursday, 30 July 2026, two employees from Capespan Farms’ Groot Patrysvlei were honoured at the Western Cape Prestige Agri Awards for the OTPV region in Clanwilliam, recognising their hard work and dedication to the agricultural industry.

Jacobus de Wee was named the OTPV regional winner in the Technical Operator category, while Keothabetse Ditsebe was named the regional winner in the Driver category.

They will represent the OTPV region at the provincial judging in September. We wish them both every success in the next round.

Capespan Farms and the Groot Patrysvlei team are incredibly proud of this achievement. Thank you, Jacobus and Keothabetse, for your continued dedication and excellent work. This recognition is well deserved!

Last week, representatives from the The Waitrose Foundation - SA visited our Northern Cape farms and Namibia Grape Company (NGC). We were proud to showcase some of the projects made possible through contributions from the Foundation and the difference they are making in our farm communities.

The Waitrose Foundation brings retailers, supply-chain partners and farm workers together to support projects in the communities where fresh produce is grown. Farm workers play an important role in identifying local needs and helping to guide how these contributions are used.

We were pleased to welcome Waitrose Customer Director Nathan Ansell, Ethics and Sustainability Director Marija Rompani, and Responsible Sourcing Lead Sam Ludlow Taylor, together with Primafruit Technical Director Kate Adams and Primafruit Technical South Africa representative Nadeem Khan. They were joined by De Villiers Graaff, Chairman of the Waitrose Foundation South Africa NPC Board; Faith Brown, General Manager of Waitrose Foundation South Africa; and Hilda Links, Manager of Central Programmes and Regional Farm Support.

Thank you to the Waitrose Foundation and everyone who participated in these valuable visits. We look forward to continuing this important relationship and working together to create meaningful opportunities for the people at the heart of our farming communities.

Our citrus farm, Groot Patrysvlei, just outside Clanwilliam in the Western Cape, is currently harvesting Nadorcotts. The fruit are being packed for the Outspan GEMS brand at the Groenkloof packhouse in Citrusdal.

The Nadorcotts are showing good colour and quality, with above-average sizing recorded across the valley this season.

Introduced by Capespan in 2018 as an extension of the iconic Outspan citrus brand, Outspan GEMS was created specifically for the growing global easy-peeler market. Building on the trusted Outspan legacy, the brand represents consistent-quality fruit sourced from leading growers.

The Groot Patrysvlei team is also looking forward to the season’s remaining harvests—Midknight Valencias and Witkrans Navels—which will be packed under the Outspan brand.

The recognition includes the Arendsnes, Norriseep, Noudonsies, Oorkant and Valam farms and packhouses, NGC farm and packhouse, as well as Capespan South Africa’s export office.

This reflects ongoing work in areas such as carbon awareness, foundational compliance and responsible agricultural practices.
