π If you ever walked through our door on Long Street before 20 June 2015, chances are Joe greeted you.
Joe Kanyona was our doorman at BEERHOUSE. Soft-spoken, always smiling. Not the biggest man in the room, but the one who made everyone feel safe. On 20 June 2015, he was murdered at the door he guarded. He left behind a daughter who was just four months old.
Today she is growing up at The Bridge, a children's home in Hout Bay. And it's not a regular orphanage. It's a family home: house mothers, a garden, an art room, music and dance, and children raised as kids, not cases. LaΓ«titia Galvaire sold her home in France to build it.
In June, our founder Randolf Jorberg launched Joe's Legacy for The Bridge. So far about R21,000 has been raised. Every rand counts. It's nowhere near enough.
This Sunday, the BEERHOUSE family has a chance to change that. The Bridge is hosting a Live Music Fundraiser on its own grounds, headlined by AURIOL HAYS, with Meri Kenaz, Keshia Lee Codron and DJ Firehorse, and a fire pit as the evening settles in. Randolf is back in Cape Town for it and would love to see familiar faces.
Come and see for yourself:
π the loving home these kids are growing up in
π why it's nothing like the institution you picture
π what it could become: with enough monthly supporters, it could welcome more children who deserve exactly this
π LaΓ«titia's remarkable work, up close
What The Bridge needs most is monthly support.

Joe looked after our guests. Let's look after the home that looks after his daughter.
