CUSTOMER QUESTION OF THE DAY:

Why am I getting all these bubbles?

ANSWER:

Beans are too fresh:
Newly roasted beans (under 5–7 days old) contain an abundance of trapped CO₂ gas, which escapes rapidly and creates large, unstable foam bubbles instead of a tight micro foam.

Grind setting is too fine or too coarse:
If the built-in grinder is set too fine, water struggles to push through, creating uneven channeling, high localized pressure, and a fizzy, bubbly top layer.  If the is too coarse water runs too quickly through the coffee cakes and doesn’t extract any aroma, ending up with dish water looking coffee with no crema

Dark roasts or high Robusta blends:
Beans with high oil content or Robusta varieties naturally produce a more volatile, aggressive crema structure that can look foamy or soapy.

Dirty brew group or spout:
Built-up coffee oils and stale residue inside the bean-to-cup internal infuser or dispensing nozzle can disrupt the smooth flow of liquid, aerating the shot as it exits.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

Let your beans rest:
Use coffee beans that were roasted at least 1 to 2 weeks prior, giving them time to out-gas excess CO₂.

Adjust the grind:
Adjust your machine's internal or external grinder setting a notch or two coarser or finer to achieve the perfect extraction and to smooth out the flow rate.

Clean the brew unit:
Remove and rinse the machine's removable brew group under lukewarm water. Run a cleaning cycle to clear out old oils.

N – NOZZLE

The steam nozzle quietly performs an essential supporting role for every milk based coffee beverage.

While the likes of the grinder motor and heating elements get all the fame,  this underestimated component is actually one of the MVP of your morning coffee.

By injecting air at high speeds into the milk, the steam nozzle is responsible for ensuring that flawless milk texture. This precise process creates that silky micro foam essential for cappuccinos and flat whites.

If your milk is flat or just wont swirl like it used to, it may be time to send your machine in for some TLC.

A - ADJUSTER

The Adjuster dial changes the distance between the grinding burrs.
The grind size directly dictates extraction time and ultimately the quality and consistency of each brew.

Finer Setting: Burrs move closer together. It creates smaller particles and slows down water flow.
If your coffee tastes bitter or burnt: The grind is likely too fine. Water passes through too slowly, creating an over-extraction.

Coarser Setting: Burrs move further apart. It creates larger particles and speeds up water flow.
If your coffee tastes sour or watery: The grind is likely too coarse. Water rushes through too quickly, under-extracting the flavor.

Does your grind need some adjusting?
Pro tip: Only adjust the dial while the grinder is running to prevent beans from jamming the mechanism!

M – MOTOR

The muscle at the heart of every brew.

Before you get that perfect espresso flow, this powerhouse is hard at work. The grinder motor drives the burrs with precise speed and torque, ensuring an even grind size without overheating the beans.

No motor, no grind. No grind, no coffee.
Cheers to the engineering behind the extraction.

Is your coffee starting to taste burnt and flat? Stop blaming your beans and get your motor checked!
