When we had our LOCO Lounge Restaurant between 2013 and 2017, we repeatedly organized gourmet dinner “flights” for our customers on New Year's Eve, with dishes served from around the world. Boarding passes were issued, pre-boarding included "inoculations" administered and Tom was the captain of the flight. Every time we “landed” in a country (starting in New Zealand) we counted down in the/a local language to welcome the New Year. One year we spoke Māori, Vietnamese, Bangla, Dhivehi, Malagasy and Afrikaans. Last Wednesday we re-created such a gourmet dinner "flight" just for and with friends. This time our gourmet tour took us to New Zealand, Viet Nam, Thailand, Turkey and Italy. Here are photos of our two deserts: 1. "drunken" fruit (Turkish apricots in Brandy with cinnamon; reconstituted [from dried] figs in Allesverloren port and vanilla, served with home-made labneh, pomegranate and pistachios; 2. meringue with fresh cherry compote, whipped cream and grated bitter chocolate...
