It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm and excitement of our volunteer gardeners from Thomas House of Hope as they shopped for clothing on Friday. They all left with at least one entire outfit.
A huge thank you to everyone who donated clothing and shoes you contributed to brightening the day of the most vulnerable people in our society.
Thank you to Di Irish, Freda Kastel, Gretchen Carruthers and Barbara Muscat for setting up the shop.

This Mandela Day, we are asking you to consider: "How can I make a difference in my Village?"

In Somerset West, we have so many organisations doing incredible work every day. Here are just a few we'd recommend that welcome volunteers in all forms:

🌱 Somerset West Village Garden – Help grow fresh produce for vulnerable members of our community while learning new skills and connecting with like-minded people.
🏡 Somerset West Night Shelter – Spend time with residents, offering practical support and helping remind someone that they are seen, valued and cared for.
❤️ Helderberg Society for the Aged – Whether you enjoy reading, music, crafts, shopping, walking, mending clothes, sharing conversation or have professional skills to offer, there are many ways to brighten the lives of older members of our community.
🎨 – Share your skills with children through mentoring, creative activities, programme support or behind-the-scenes administration, helping young people grow and flourish.

The strongest communities aren’t built by a few extraordinary people – they’re built by ordinary people who choose to show up.

Which local organisation have you seen making an impact? We’d love to hear in the comments ⬇️

Somerset West Village Garden partners with Thomas House of Hope to run a work programme for homeless adults, but finding jobs for graduates remains a challenge.
