✨ Unwind, connect and get creative at Lime Tree Café. ✨

We’ve had the pleasure of hosting several wonderful rock dotting evenings with Lynn from Lynn Miller MillerTime, and they’ve been a wonderful success.

Our next session takes place on 30 July, and due to popular demand, Lynn has already released additional future dates at Lime Tree. Be sure to book your spot before they fill up!

Each 2.5-hour experience begins with a short guided meditation before Lynn demonstrates and guides you through the beautiful art of rock dotting, where mindfulness meets creativity.

Whether you bring a few friends or come on your own, you’ll be welcomed into a relaxed, like-minded group. It’s the perfect opportunity to slow down, enjoy some well-deserved “me time,” and indulge in delicious food, dessert, coffee or a drink from Lime Tree Café while you create.

🎨 see Lynns posters below for even details! Make sure to book directly with Lynn too.

We can’t wait to see you there! 🌿

Last weekend Vanessa and I enjoyed a wonderful slow and long Sunday lunch at a friends house. It is not often these days that we can just sit and chat and laugh with some friends and take time to communicate with one another....share experiences and thoughts and funny stories.

And one such conversation centred around the changing values in society and how fast and how far some of these ideas have come.

Last Thursday night we were waiting for the last tables to pay and leave, so having a bit of time on hand, and with the thought of changing worlds in my mind, I googled " adverts 1950's ". What came up was a fascinating snapshot of advertising when the limits on what was and was not acceptable was very different, and definitely rather hazy. Doctors promoting ci******es, wives hugging their best birthday present - a Hoover. Or an advert for Schlitz Beer featuring a smoking pot on the stove and the husband hugging his wife in the foreground saying 'don't worry darling, you didn't burn the beer'. That might not serve to increase sales in 2026. Or adverts claiming that laboratory tests show that it's never to early for babies to start drinking Cola, the results indicating that early Cola drinkers gain more social acceptance as they grow up. You can't make this stuff up. Well...they clearly did.

These days it's better to keep closer to the truth....so here goes....as of Monday we are extending our early morning specials.

The R60 Breakfast and R25 Coffee/Tea specials are now offered on weekends as well as weekdays. The attached promo says from this Monday but if you come in tomorrow, Sunday, we will honour the special too.

So.......start your day the Lime Tree way

This special will run until the end of 2026 {And we have other specials planned....watch this space }

See you later

Another month come and gone. Bye bye June, hello July (sounds like a Lothario on a busy Friday evening......bad joke....? Sorry).

The Leopard Trail was just spectacular. The huge valleys, towering peaks and mangled and concertinaed folds of sedimentary rock were only marginally outshone by the scoured and boulder strewn streams that had become mad torrents in the recent floods. The rocks were shiny bright as if someone had gone about cleaning them with steel wool and Sunlight soap. And there was not a living thing in the streams. Not a tadpole or beetle. I guess every living thing was unceremoniously ripped from its hidey hole and transported downstream at high speed, never to see its home again. Quite sad really, if you think about it. Anyway, we survived well. Very well.

Back at work, everything functioned very well in my absence. Extremely well in fact, so a big thanks to the team at Lime Tree Cafe for allowing me the breaks that I appreciate so much.

And I was truly impressed and a bit amazed at, and very grateful for, the efforts the staff made to come in to work on Tuesday. A few just could not make it for obvious reasons but the show went on.

Moving on to a sad note. As Covid was biting hard, one of our clients, Kit, took the time and trouble to encourage me to get back on my horse and ignore the mounting and unpayable debts accruing to landlord, Eskom, suppliers and taxmen. It was a bad time for many, but he convinced me there was value still and a bright future for Lime Tree Cafe. So I did get on my horse and we slowly dug ourselves out of our rut. After that Kit regularly came for breakfasts, and always had a kind and funny word with his sharp repartee and twinkling eyes. I never missed an opportunity to chat with him. But I heard this week that he had suddenly passed away a couple of weeks ago. Kit, goodbye. Thanks for everything. You will be missed. I will miss you. RIP my friend.

But Kit would not want me to rest on the sad notes. He would probably admonish me for the pathos. So instead I will carry on with the specials that were devised in my absence and end next Wednesday 8th July.

The soup is roast sweet potato & coconut served with toasted sourdough - R75

Pan Fried Dorado on wholegrain mustard mash with tarragon and white wine cream served with wilted baby spinach - R245

Slow roast lamb knuckle in a red wine rosemary jus served with basmati rice - R240

Creamy chorizo, tomato and mushroom risotto topped with shaved grana padano - R190

The pizza special is a margherita pizza topped with parma ham, camembert, preserved fig and rocket and rocket - R198

And the dessert is sticky orange pudding with homemade chocolate ice cream - R80

Our Sunday roast is....

Roast leg of lamb - R215
or Roast Pork Belly - R170

served with Butternut mash, steamed carrots and green beans and a delicious gravy.

Oh my. I should stay away more often if this is what they come up with in my absence. Dessert is like a Terry's chocolate orange that you can eat out of a bowel with a spoon. Oh my.

As a final note...I posted recently about our lemon meringue pies. I omitted to mention that we sell slices, large cakes....AND the baby sized versions...which are perfect for a small gathering...or a really truly indulgent night in.

Its freezing outside. Lets see how many are prepared to brave the cold and join us.

Meantime, take care and see you later.

Jeremy

PS...as you can see I have departed from a customary food photograph because this is such a lovely shot of Vanessa and the friends we went hiking with.

6 ladies from the last 2 sessions came again and 3 from the 1st session.

I always say it is a bit like life when I do my intro after the meditation;

Enjoy the journey not just the destination
Don’t have any expectations
Don’t judge, especially yourself
We may not all be artists, but we are all creative
Embrace the unknown
Be brave and courageous enough to be out of your comfort zone, it’s where the most fun happens.
Perfectionism is overated - let go and enjoy.
Face your fears, it’s never ever as bad as it seems.

The mail I receive isn't always fan mail !! In fact sometimes the messages are not from fans at all. I guess it goes with the territory.

But the visitor I had today was particularly welcome.

A lovely young lady arrived with a huge smile wanting to speak to me. From her demeanour I figured I was not going to have my ear chewed off, so I was all ears.

She proceeded to tell me that she had decided to celebrate her birthday with a lemon meringue pie taste-off. She had bought 5 different samples, and headed off to the beach with her friends and spoons at the ready.

Now I must let you know that she had gone to the 'Best Thing Ever' and searched for Lemon Meringue Pie. Some time ago a lady had bought one of ours and raved about it. Being a person that people listened to her recommendation made an impact and we began to enjoy a new level of sales. Luckily this review remained so my new best friend decided to give us a try.

And the result is that she came out of her way to tell me that our offering had won hands down. She and her friends devoured it. By far the best. She thought I'd like to know. And I was certainly more than happy to receive her opinion....especially since her other samples had included some local and well known competition.

I thought that was so nice of her to tell me.

Our featured photo is a slice of our lemon meringue pie (maybe not the best photo ever but it's the best I could do tonight)....we have baked more for tomorrow and there are some baby ones too.

Meanwhile....it's Father's Day tomorrow. My son is going to cook me lunch (steak braai...what else) and with luck we will take our motorbikes and ride in the rough somewhere.

At Lime Tree Cafe we have a special on tomorrow for lazy aged ribeye with fries and one of our amazing sauces plus the first drink for R265. Go on Dad...!

Happy Father's Day to all of the dads out there.

See you tomorrow...or later

Jeremy

Oh yes...Vanessa and I and some friends are off to do the Leopard Trail in the Baviaanskloof so I will be away for a week. Wish me luck....long time no hike.
