A City of Cape Town LEAP officer has been killed while assisting at an accident scene. During the early hours of this morning, the off-duty officer stopped to assist at an accident scene on Jakes Gerwel Drive. He was then hit by a vehicle. Further investigations reveal that the motorist was under the influence of alcohol. The driver was detained at the Samora Machel police station.

City of Cape Town Law Enforcement spokesperson Wayne Dyason says the deceased officer was only 20-years-old.

"We extend our condolences to the loved ones and colleagues. The Safety and Security Directorate will work tirelessly to ensure that justice is served and that the suspect faces the full might of the law".
