"I'm reminded of a time when people wouldn't even trust me with their wallet. Now I'm trusted to lead people, lead a business, and manage a coffee shop."
That's Wilma, our cafe manager. She once needed Quiver's help. Today she's the Quiver Cafe Manger in Woodstock.
She works alongside Quincy, one of the first men we walked with. After rehab, we asked Quincy what he was passionate about. His answer was hospitality: meeting people and seeing how happy a good meal or a great coffee can make them. So we arranged a barista course for him with the African School of Coffee. His dream of a coffee cart planted the seed for the cafe, and now he's our barista.
We started Quiver Cafe for three reasons:
1. To fund Quiver. So far, every man on a rehab and reintegration journey with us has been funded by generous donors. We're so grateful, but donations alone won't let the work grow. Every cup sold helps keep Quiver going.
2. To be a community hub. It's where our neighbours get to know what we do and become part of the life change happening here.
3. To give our guys real work. It's a place to gain experience, learn skills and build the confidence to step back into the working world.
Most mornings, I walk in and see people who weren't sure they'd be alive a year ago making coffee and mixing waffle batter with joy. It's a miracle, every day.
You can help write the next story like Wilma's and Quincy's.
