BAÍA GRANDE – AN UPDATE TO OUR CUSTOMERS
To our wonderful Baía Grande family, our loyal customers and everyone who has been eagerly awaiting our return:

We know that many of you were expecting to see our doors open at our new 47 Stadler Road (Kleinbaai) home this summer. We had every intention of making that happen. Sadly, we are not going to be able to open within the timeframe we had originally announced. This is not a decision we have taken lightly, nor is it a reflection of our commitment to opening. Over the past months, our team has invested substantial time, money and effort into preparing the new premises, with the genuine expectation that we would be able to welcome our customers as planned.

However, a number of unforeseen issues relating to the premises, its compliance requirements and matters that fall outside the control of the Baía Grande team have prevented us from proceeding with the opening as originally anticipated. We have worked tirelessly to try to resolve these matters and to find a way forward. At this stage, however, we believe the responsible course of action is to pause the opening until the outstanding issues have been properly resolved. There are matters currently being dealt with through the appropriate formal channels, and for that reason we cannot comment in detail at this stage. We hope our customers will understand that there are times when it is necessary to remain quiet while important matters are being properly addressed.

What we can say is this: Baía Grande has not given up. We have not forgotten the promise we made to our customers — to bring you exceptional Portuguese food, great Portuguese w**e and the warm, generous hospitality that has always been at the heart of Baía Grande. We know how much our customers are looking forward to sitting down with a cold glass of Portuguese w**e, sharing a platter of fresh seafood and enjoying the flavours of Portugal with us again. That day will come. 🇵🇹❤️

We simply cannot give you a new opening date until we are confident that the circumstances surrounding the premises allow us to do so properly and with the certainty our customers deserve. We are enormously grateful to everyone who has supported us throughout this journey — particularly those who have contacted us, encouraged us, supported our move and told us how much they are looking forward to having Baía Grande back in their lives.

Your patience and loyalty have been extraordinary. We ask only that you bear with us a little longer. We haven't forgotten you. We haven't forgotten our promise. And we haven't forgotten what Baía Grande means to the people who love it. We remain determined to bring Baía Grande back to our customers, and we will share our plans as soon as we are able to do so.

BAIA GRANDE PORTUGUESE RESTAURANT ANNOUNCES EXCITING MOVE TO 47 STADLER ROAD, BLOUBERGSTRAND

After three unforgettable years serving the Table View and Blouberg community at Seaside Village, Baia Grande Portuguese Restaurant is proud to announce its upcoming move to the iconic property at 47 Stadler Road, Bloubergstrand — home to the much-loved Lighthouse Coffee Shop.

The move comes following the conclusion of Baia Grande’s lease at Seaside Village and marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the family-run restaurant. Rather than simply relocating, the owners see this as an opportunity to create an even more memorable and elevated experience for their loyal customers and the wider community.

The new location has long been recognised as a familiar and welcoming gathering place for local residents, thanks in large part to the work of Lighthouse Coffee Shop owner Jerry Finley, who has spent years building a space where members of the community could meet, relax and enjoy the beachfront atmosphere. The Baia Grande team looks forward to continuing that spirit of hospitality and community connection at the property.

Extensive renovations and improvements are currently underway at the new premises, with the restaurant expected to open in Summer 2026. While an official opening date has not yet been confirmed, the vision for the new space is already generating excitement among local residents and supporters of the brand.

The redevelopment is being guided by respected local professionals Leon Smith (Architect) and David Bettesworth (Urban Planner), whose expertise is helping shape a warm, welcoming and community-focused destination that complements the natural beauty and character of the Blouberg beachfront area.

Owned and operated by Sally and Joao De Oliveira and Sean Bell, Baia Grande has become known not only for its authentic food, but also for its deeply personal approach to hospitality. The owners have earned a strong reputation in the community as ethical, honest and hardworking operators who genuinely care about their customers, staff and suppliers.

“At the heart of Baia Grande has always been family,” says the ownership team. “We want every guest to feel welcomed into our home — whether they are joining us for a casual lunch, a family celebration, or simply a glass of w**e while watching the sunset. This move allows us to create a space that truly reflects that vision.”

The new Baia Grande will continue to celebrate traditional Portuguese cuisine, while introducing Mediterranean-inspired influences and modern twists that reflect the restaurant’s evolving culinary identity. Guests can expect generous family-style meals, fresh seafood, grilled specialties, warm hospitality and an atmosphere designed to bring people together. The restaurant has also become increasingly well known for its curated w**e experiences, w**e tasting evenings and passion for showcasing both outstanding South African w**es and Portuguese varietals. The team prides itself on offering guests a deeper appreciation of w**e culture through knowledgeable service and thoughtfully selected pairings.

As part of the transition to the new premises, Baia Grande is currently in the process of transferring its liquor licence to the new location. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: After three incredible years at Seaside Village, we’re taking a moment to reflect on a journey filled with great food, fine w**e, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

As we approach the end of our lease, Baia Grande will be closing today for the winter season while we prepare for an exciting new chapter. This space has truly been special to us, but we’re getting ready to return in the summer in a brand-new location, with bigger dreams, fresh energy, and the same warm Portuguese soul you know and love.

This isn’t goodbye… it’s simply “see you in summer.” ☀️

Thank you for every meal shared, every glass raised, and every moment spent with us - your support has meant the world.

BarDouro W**e & Gin Bar will remain open, continuing with our w**e tastings and available for private functions, so there’s still plenty to look forward to in the meantime.

Pierre’s love of nature first sparked dreams of becoming a conservationist, until he discovered w**emaking offered the perfect mix of science, creativity, and the outdoors. The youngest student in his class at Elsenburg, he graduated in 1995 and quickly began making his mark in the Cape W**elands. After his early experience at Niel Joubert and Môreson, Pierre spent nearly 20 years at Rijk’s in Tulbagh crafting award-winning w**es and developing his distinctive style. Today, as Cellar Master for the Survivor brand at Overhex W**es, he draws on decades of experience to craft w**es from some of South Africa’s most exciting regions.

The name Survivor pays tribute to the legendary Nguni cattle, one of Southern Africa’s oldest indigenous breeds. When European settlers arrived in the 1800s and introduced foreign cattle, many couldn’t withstand the harsh African climate, disease, and rugged terrain. But the Nguni thrived. Tough, adaptable, and remarkably resilient, they survived where others couldn’t, becoming a powerful symbol of endurance and strength.
