Our story begins with our much-loved founders, Massi and Lorenza. Massi left his hometown Oleveno, located 45km east of Rome, and arrived in South Africa in 1967 in search of adventure abroad. He made a living plying his trade as a boilermaker and welder. Massi’s ultimate passion, however was realized in the kitchen, preparing and cooking food to enjoy feasting with family and friends. Massi followed his passion further by introducing and serving his dishes in a quaint Italian take-away food venue in Jules Street, Malvern. Four decades and three generations later, La Piovra in Bedforview still pays tribute to Massi’s passion by bringing you dishes that are reminiscent of “cucina romana”.

Wood-fired pizza ovens, an “Old World appeal”, still grab customers attention and hearts as the gourmet pizzas are pulled from the hot stone. The crispy, lightly charred pizzas require finesse and expertise, delivered by passionate “Pizzaioli”.
