🖤 WEAR BLACK. STAND TOGETHER. END GBV. 🖤
Today, Friday, we wear black to stand against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) in South Africa.
GBV can take many forms — physical, sexual, emotional, psychological and economic abuse. It affects women, children and men, and its impact reaches far beyond the individual.
The scale of the crisis is devastating. South Africa’s National Gender-Based Violence Prevalence Study found that approximately 7.3 million women aged 18 and older have experienced physical violence during their lifetime, while more than 2.15 million have experienced sexual violence.
Today, wearing black is more than a colour. It is a statement:
🖤 We will not stay silent.
🖤 We stand with survivors.
🖤 We reject violence and abuse.
🖤 We choose respect, safety and equality.
🖤 We all have a role to play in ending GBV.
If you or someone you know is experiencing gender-based violence, help is available.
