Update: CoffeeBean Cafe - Temporary Closure
We hope you enjoyed a blessed Easter period and celebrated with family and friends.
Your support for our hot cross bun drive was overwhelming and we can’t thank you enough for all the shares on Facebook and comments received. It was a great few days in the bakery as all team members pitched in to help prepare the 100's of orders…it reminded us of the great team we have and it was fun!
Our joy was short lived as we received the outcome of our appeal from the Ekurhuleni Municipal Appeals Authority (EMAA). They dismissed our appeal and therefore we lost the appeal hearing, refusing our land use rights. It was cold comfort that COE withdrew the unlawful compliance notices the night before our appeals meeting.
The reasons and feedback contained in the record of decision is being studied and we’re weighing up our options.
Regretfully this means we will not be able to reopen our restaurant and patio service in the short term.
We are tremendously disappointed about the outcome and today we've spent time with the team on the way forward. As can be imagined this is difficult for Lynn and myself, but even more so for the broader CoffeeBean Cafe Team - please continue to keep us in your prayers and thoughts.
Lynn and I, are working hard on various alternatives to forge a way forward as we've enjoyed delivering old school, quality products and memorable experiences to our friends, patrons and customers. We’re seeking and evaluating alternative locations, new solutions and even a High Court Appeal if merits warrant. A formal community petition might now be helpful and we're consulting on the options with stakeholders.
For now we needed to share the update as we valued the support of the 100’s of people that dropped us personal messages, shared our posts and encouraged our team to stay strong - the response and support from the community has been deeply cherished by us all.
When we finalise any option on the way forward, we'll share the details with you.
