Happy Monday friends!!!

I'm taking it easy the next couple days thanks to a side quest I took to the hospital at the end of last week (nothing too serious, I'm home and on the road to recovery, thankfully!) So instead of finally making to those Slu++y Mint-To-Be brookies I mentioned earlier last week, I'm sitting here looking at my faux Hoosier cabinet that I set up as a dedicated baking space, wondering if I should change the labels on my spice jars??? 🤔 I added these larger white labels to my baking ingredients and now I'm wondering if the spices need coordinating labels?

What are your thoughts?
• Should I leave the clear tape labels on?
• Should I switch them up to coordinating labels to match my ingredient bins?
• Or should I just change the clear tape labels for white tape labels?

Throwback Thursday is getting some cookie dough LOVE!!! 😍😍😍

From left to right- Sugar, Classic, Peanut Butter, Snickerdoodle, and Brownie cookie dough bases.

Classic is, and probably always will be, my favorite "plain jane" flavor. No toppings, especially no chocolate chips; they just get in the way of the buttery, brown sugary goodness. If I want something a bit "extra" mixing the Brownie cookie dough with vanilla ice cream, chopped peanuts, and caramel sauce always hits the spot! 🤤

I'm curious, if you had the opportunity to enjoy a scoop or two from the truck, what was your favorite flavor or combination? If you never had the chance to try our cookie dough, what flavor or combination do you think you would have liked?

I'm going to buck the status quo and post something decadent and full of sugar - resolutions be d@mned!!!

Remember the viral "slu++y" brownie from like 10 years ago? Well, they're making a comeback in my kitchen this week but with a bit of a flavor twist. The mint baking chips finally got delivered, so "Slu++y Mint to Be" brookies are on my to-do list. I've made "Mint to Be" brookies before but these ones are going to have a layer of mint sandwich creme cookies in between the mint chip brownie cookie base layer and the fudge brownie middle layer, then I'm going to finish the whole thing off with a creamy, dreamy mint buttercream and an extra sprinkle of mint baking chips.

***Don't worry, I'll be sure to come back and post photos of the finished product! 😁***

I know, I know it's "New Year, New Me!" time and I'm "supposed" to be posting pictures of veggie filled salads or protein packed smoothie bowls or something. Don't get me wrong, those are great; I actually just ate a chicken shwarma rice bowl with yummy cucumber and tzatziki for lunch and it was delicious! But, as I'm learning, truly taking care of one's self is a slow and steady process and since most new year's resolutions don't survive past January, I'm going to enjoying making and eating some "slu++y" brookies.

"Everything in moderation" is the name of the game now. Have the salad with your favorite dressing because you want to, not because you have to. Eat the brownies without shame or guilt because sugar isn't suddenly the enemy every January. Just take care of yourself, whatever that looks like for you in the here and now.

P.S.- Let me know if you want the scoop on that chicken shwarma rice bowl and I'll pull the recipe into something more palatable than my chicken scratch on random bits of scrap paper! 🤣

Happy New Year!!! I know it’s been a while...

Just over three years, if you wanted to put a number on it. When I first stepped away, I had hoped it would be a short hiatus, but life doesn't necessarily always go the way we want it to. Honestly, my past few years have been about survival, recovery, and learning how to live in a body that needed more care than I’d been giving it.

I’m coming back now, not because everything is “fixed," but because I feel like I've gained enough knowledge about myself to be able to share again from a place that feels safe and sustainable. Things are going to be different than they were before - because I'm different than I was before. So, without further ado, this page is entering a new chapter!

I'd like to introduce 🥁 drumroll please 🥁
~Black Apron Cottage Kitchen~

What hasn’t changed:
• My love for cooking and baking (mostly baking!)
• The joy I get from sharing good food
• The recipes that have been created, tested, and loved to death in my own kitchen

What will be changing:
• The pace
• The pressure
• The expectation that this space has to be anything other than what I need it to be

Black Apron Cottage Kitchen will be a place for fun, tasty, and guilt-free cooking and baking! Starting with the sweets you already know me for (yes, the cookie dough and brookies are making a comeback!)

You’ll also see the occasional meal idea for tired humans who still want something good to eat.

No hustle.
Tons of grace.
Just feeding ourselves and the people we love, as we are, where we are.

If you’re new here—welcome!
If you’ve been here a long time—thank you for staying!
If you’re somewhere in between—I’m really glad you’re here now!

🖤
