The sweet babies were eating gravel on the road. I inched by waiting for them to fly away, and they didn’t move. I parked the truck and waved them away, and while I did this I noticed so many were already dead. Struck by vehicles that didn’t see them, or did see them and didn’t care. Or they froze to the road while trying to get nourishment.

Regardless of how they died. All nine of them. I pried them off the road, and scattered all I had, dried tea, around them, to remind them, to remind us, that all life is beautiful.

My wish today, on a made up new year, and every day, is that we see,love, and respect all living beings.

I was asked to sit in support of a good friend (and amazing father) in family court yesterday. Of course Chris and I said yes, and at the end of the four plus hours, the judge said these words:

“ Trying to make someone else look bad, doesn’t make you look good”

The judge of course had many, many, other things to say - but these specific words hit a chord with me.

I have a lot to say on this, but am not great or eloquent with words, so will just say that imagine if we all embraced this. Not trying to make others look bad, to try to make ourselves look better/good - not judging others for being different or having different beliefs, not trying to make others lives difficult out of spite or jealousy, insecurity, anger or rage… what if we all leaned into being human and recognized that in the end, love and kindness, acceptance and gratitude are really all we need to live and exist in a beautiful, synergistic, world.

This photo is from a life changing river trip I was on in June - with , and . Rachelle (badass) lead us in partner stretching and yoga in the morning one day and I distinctly remember thinking, I barely know this person that I am relying on to hold me up, to help me stretch, to help me open up to the most amazing day - yet, even without really knowing him, I trusted him - trusted that he and I had each other’s best interests in our hearts and minds, and I knew, without a doubt, that even if we were different, even if I needed more support than him, that we, for that moment, were working towards the same goal…. We were simply helping each other be the best we could be.

Holidays always seem like a time that people try to be extra “nice” - let’s expand that to every day, and see what happens… ?! Can we, despite having differences, can we just embrace that we are all human and perfectly imperfect and embrace that, with love and kindness and acceptance we can help everyone be the best versions of themselves?

Oh, and P.S. we are booking catering gigs for 2026 - loving, kind, non-asshole people get preference for the Max’s Magic! :) And, river trips are welcome!! ☃️✨🩵

Sweet Charley girl - Happy six year anniversary of being a part of our family. 🐶🧡

I cannot imagine a life without you in it. For six years you have been a best friend, a perfect listener, the best adventure companion, napping partner, the absolute best furry sister (to Max and Kimbey Rose), and truly our everything in furry form.

We’ve tracked thousands of miles on bikes, skis, hikes, boats, runs and more - you are the best faithful companion for all of life’s adventures. In the desert, the beach, islands, the mountains, lakes, rivers….. everywhere is better because of you being with us.

You were the best shop dog at Max’s - you amazed us, our guests, and doggie friends that would visit - by always being welcoming, open and kind to all who walked into our doors. You being so free to just wander up to people and lay on their lap (of course, because they were on your couch), brought joy to so many.

You have befriended other doggies that were thought to be “unfriendable”, you’ve been a friend to others outside of our family, and a friendly face for all when they see us out on the trails.

Your eyes say so much, every day, they are a window into your oh so big heart - I’ve never experienced love for an animal the way I do for you. The way you press your head into our heads, you have such a deep understanding and depth….

Charley, YOU are pure gold. You ponder, question, listen and love in the most special, unique and fulfilling way.

Thank you for finding us, thank you to the universe for putting us together, and most of all, Charley - thank you for being the best teacher of patience and understanding, and unconditional love. Loving you and being loved by you is such a gift.

You are our hero. Happy gotcha day my darling love. 🐾💕

A PSA - if you are looking at a pet for the holidays, there are over THREE MILLION dogs in shelters and more in foster homes looking for their forever home. Adopt, I promise it will be the best thing. You’ve done in a long time. 😊

Don’t forget to give your local farmers a little extra love during the holiday season- sign up for a csa, buy their produce (yes! You can still buy local produce right now), send them a coffee gift card, write them a love note…. They are the roots for all of us that chose to eat local and seasonally! - 🩵✨🙏

Seven years ago, I would have spent this week in Las Vegas at the business aviation convention.

I would have dressed up, worn heels on asphalt for 14 hours a day (seriously, wtf?), entertained into the wee hours of the night, and talked to people about why they should spend millions of dollars on a private jet.
-
Do I miss this? Full body NO.
-
Am I grateful for what my past expertise and experience has led me to? Full body YES.
-
Do I love and cherish the people and relationships I knew and had during my 20 year aviation career. Absolutely.
-
Am I beyond thrilled that for some reason aviation led me to exactly where I am now, although the “path” literally makes no sense to anyone? Full body yes.
-
From being born and raised in Alaska, to having a full career in aviation, to starting and running Max’s, to this exact moment- grateful for it all and wouldn’t change a thing (except maybe the 20 years of high heels….) 😊

This clearly has nothing to do with food, but gratitude shows in all we do and I am grateful every day for my past, present and future- and believe that shows up in my food and my life.

For all my aviation friends at NBAA this week: a small tip- I don’t remember a sale ever being made at 4am at the piano bar on the strip- it’s ok to go to bed! I promise…. 🥰💫

One of the unexpected delights of personal chef services and catering are the magical places we get to visit and experience…..

I did a site visit today, for a welcome dinner wedding we are catering in September. The place is pure magic. The energy, attention to detail, and love and respect for the land is apparent in every inch of this 100 acre beautiful scape…. Not to mention Deb, the owner and incredible human-
-
And we get to add to the energy and magic of the space with food for guests on a magical night.
