Monsoon exposed weak roofs, loose latches, and muddy runs.
Arizona flock keepers learned three things this year:
1. Keep the run dry.
Move feed and water under solid cover. Remove wet bedding before it turns sour.
2. Check the coop after every hard wind.
Look at roof fasteners, door latches, hardware cloth, and the anti-dig apron. Coyotes and bobcats look for weak spots.
3. Do not pack away your heat plan too soon.
Cool mornings can still lead to hot afternoons. Keep shade ready. Keep the wet sand cooling station ready until the heat stays down.
Fall is the best time to repair, clean, and prepare your flock’s setup.
You’re doing this right. Small fixes now protect your flock later.
