Once Upon a Time Bakery

Once Upon a Time Bakery Once Upon A Time, ALL food was real and organic!

** Deliciousness fit for a King!
** Organic "What CAN we eat?" was often heard.

Once Upon a Time Bakery is the unique vision of Donna Voetee, a Certified Health Counselor and Naturopathic Doctor, whose "Granny Good-Food" page is loved and followed by thousands. Donna Voetee ND saw people become discouraged after she would discuss toxic foods and ingredients at her Supermarket Survival classes. Birthday parties and celebrations presented a special challenge, as grocery store c

akes are slathered with hydrogenated shortenings and trans fats, decorated with artificial colors that contribute to asthma and behavioral problems, and made with bleached flours that are "enriched" with synthetic vitamins and minerals. What should be a happy day often turns into a chaotic nightmare when children are overwhelmed with chemicals. To solve this dilemma, Donna became a Certified Baker under the Texas Cottage Bakers Law. From her home in Lockhart, she bakes up custom creations that are not only healthy, but affordable and beautiful. And she doesn't just want to sell you a cake. What other bakery gives you recipes and resource info to help you to make your own healthy and delicious creation? Donna Voetee opened The Life Emporium in January 2007, and for three years taught health classes, held forums for guest speakers (including Malcolm Beck, founder of Gardenville), and was a guest presenter for two years at the Texas PTA Convention in Austin. Her class, "Why Can't My Child Behave?" was -- sadly -- standing room only. As a member of Lockhart ISD's School Health Advisory Council, she shared info on how to make the school lunch better. Other venues include Round Rock and Plano ISD, as well as 4-H and private organizations. Her "Kids in the Kitchen" classes are always fun and educational, allowing young bakers to learn new skills during summertime. When she's not baking, Donna is promoting literacy through her tutoring ministry, Qara Academy. A former homeschool mom of 20+ years, she was trained by The Riggs Institute and taught The Writing Road to Reading to homeschool, private, and public school teachers in Southern California. Donna has been blessed to be the bride of Michael since 1974. On a momentous day in 1972, he offered to carry her books as he walked her home from the bus stop. Today, they have four grown children and five grandchildren -- and thousands of books that came with them from California to Texas in 2006. So, if you need a tasty cake or a cookie tray, a guest speaker for your special event, or to brush up on your spelling, phonograms, or rules of grammar, call/text/pm.

A bit brainiac, but cool info. "discernible differences" in the same recipe made by different bakers, due to colonies of yeast on the bakers' hands. The Koreans have a word for this characteristic, "Son-Mat," or "hand flavor."

The live microorganisms that inhabit sourdough starters are responsible for the unique aspects of sourdough bread, including its flavor and extended shelf life. So, what do we know about them?

Book Cake for retiring Librarian. Her friends catered to her love for "chocolate" and "decadent." Chocolate diary cake atop another Chocolate book, Chocolate buttercream between all, Fresh-baked brownies added on to display just before delivery, served on top of a Gingerbread platter covered in white chocolate. An edible chocolate cuppa sat nearby her edible book diary with edible paper. Molasses Spice Cookies on one end of the maroon fondant tablecloth (school color), and the last touch of a nice juicy apple.
