🏈🐾FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS IN ZEPHYR - A little history edition.. 🐾🏈

With football season here, we thought we’d dig a little deeper into the history behind those maroon and white jerseys we’re so proud of. ❤️

Did you know the history of Zephyr School dates all the way back to 1876?!

A high school was built in Zephyr in 1940, and in 1958 the community voted for Zephyr to become its own independent school district — keeping Zephyr kids right here in Zephyr.

And somewhere along the way, Friday night football became part of the story too. 🏈

For such a little Texas town, the Bulldogs have built quite a football history:

🐾 23 playoff appearances in documented program history
🐾 An 11-game winning streak in 1996
🐾 19 straight district wins from 2001–2005
🐾 4 consecutive playoff appearances from 2001–2004
🐾 An incredible 10-1 season in 2011, including an undefeated district run

But one of the biggest moments in Bulldog history came in 1988, when Zephyr made it ALL THE WAY to the Texas Six-Man State Championship! 🏆

The Bulldogs faced Fort Hancock in the title game and finished the season as the 1988 STATE RUNNER-UP.

And they weren’t finished making history. In 1994, Zephyr made another incredible playoff run, reaching the state semifinal.

That’s what we love about looking back at Zephyr history.

Buildings change. Uniforms change. Generations come and go. But there are some things about a small town that just seem to stick around.

And generation after generation, this little community keeps showing up. ❤️🤍

📖 And here’s something really special…

The Zephyr Historical Society was kind enough to loan us a scrapbook from 1988, and we now have it on display at The Mill!

It is FULL of little pieces of Zephyr history — old photographs, newspaper clippings, stories and so many neat things to sit down and look through. And, of course, there’s plenty to read about that incredible 1988 Zephyr Bulldog football team and their run to the State Championship! 🏈🏆

We’re sharing a few pictures from it here, but there is so much more inside. Next time you’re at The Mill, take a few minutes to flip through it. You might recognize a face, a name, or even find a memory of your own. ❤️

And now we want to hear from the people who actually LIVED this history!
