Wednesday, Aug. 26th • A Treasure Discovered
We’re making progress with steps toward fully re-opening, and we’ll be able to share information about these steps soon.
In the meantime • while working through post-fire restoration at Frank's, we’re uncovering & discovering treasures, thanks to the team from Dan Vos Construction.
This treasure is a beautiful, historical painted advertisement that has stood the test of time behind the wall at Frank’s. We’re hoping to restore the ad & display it in Frank’s.
This advertisement is for Sluyter & Dykema. It extends to the apartment above Frank’s. The part of the ad that shows in the apartment was restored years ago.
Sharing From a Google search :
“Sluyter & Dykema (also referred to as Sluyter & Dykema Bros.) was a historic tailoring, clothing, and men's furnishings business operating in Ottawa County, Michigan, during the early 20th century.
Historical Overview Business Type: Tailors, clothiers, hatters, and furnishers.
They offered made-to-order suits, trouserings, and general clothing care (cleaning, pressing, and repairing).
Locations: The firm had documented roots and advertisements in regional western Michigan communities, including Zeeland, Michigan, and a presence or association referenced near Holland, Michigan (with professional offices listed "over Sluyter & Dykema's store").
Time Period: Historical newspaper records, such as the Zeeland Record and local directories, actively reference the firm operating circa 1908–1910.
As advertised in historical local newspapers from the era, the firm was known as “SLUYTER & DYKEMA BROS. TAILORS, Clothiers, Hatters and Furnishers. Zeeland, Mich.” -- [Zeeland Record].”

We also searched & found a digitally-preserved Sluyter and Dykema ad from the Zeeland Record • June 1908, 118 Years Ago.
We’ll continue to keep you updated as we go • one day at a time • forward. 🤗
With Much Love,
On Behalf of Frank’s
