Meet Dear Future Family — stories from foster care, told by the cats living them.
And of course, Mighty Bean had to write the very first letter. 🫘♥️
💌 Dear Future Family,
Today, I started opening my eyes. 👀
Everyone here seems VERY excited about it.
They keep staring at me, taking pictures and saying, “Look at her little eyes!”
Humans are weird.
But since this is my first letter to you, I should probably start at the beginning.
My story started at the bottom of a driveway.
It had been pouring rain, and someone heard me crying. so someone scooped me up, got me warm, and that’s how I ended up here.
When they found me, I was soaking wet and completely alone.
They waited for my mama to come back.
They waited a few hours, hoping she was somewhere nearby and would return for me.
But she never did. 🥺
I weighed less than three ounces. My umbilical cord was still attached. I couldn’t see, couldn’t keep myself warm, couldn’t eat on my own and couldn’t even go potty without help.
Now that my eyes are starting to open exactly one week later, everyone thinks I was probably only about a day old when I was found.
So for the last week, I’ve been growing up in a foster home.
I know that someone sets alarms all night to feed me.
I know that they weigh me every day and celebrate every tiny bit I gain.
I know how many people I’ve never met are already rooting for me.
I also know that when I’m hungry, someone comes.
When I’m cold, someone makes me warm.
And when I cry…
I’m not alone anymore.
Apparently, that’s called foster care. ♥️
I’m still very little, Future Family. I have a lot to learn before I’m ready for you.
I have to finish opening these eyes.
I have to learn how to walk.
I have to grow teeth and try real food and figure out what toys are and probably cause at least a little trouble.
So while I grow up here, I thought maybe I’d write to you.
I’ll tell you what it’s like to grow up in foster care. I’ll tell you about all my firsts, the people who help me along the way, and everything that happens while I’m becoming the kitten you’ll someday know.
That way, when we finally find each other, you’ll know the whole story of how I got to you.
One week ago, I was crying alone in the rain.
Today, I opened my eyes.
I think I’m going to like it here. 🥹
I’ll write again soon.
Love,
Mighty Bean 🫘♥️
P.S. I can’t wait to meet you.
