We’re GROWING!

Admittedly, this has been the weirdest “season” yet. We lost several of the Cornish cross birds from the hatchery early, likely due to heat stress from the long transport via US mail. That’s never been an issue before.

I was able to supplement with Cornish cross birds from Family Farm and Home that were born pretty close to the same day and should finish at the same time.

At this point…everyone is healthy, growing, and on schedule.

In 8 and 12 weeks respectively, they’ll be ready for the freezer.

Right now, all 30 have survived the USPS. 1 looks a little weak- hopefully he survives the night.

This is the first time I’ve ordered all males. So 🤷‍♂️ we will see how this goes.

For now- enjoy the cuteness.

“Bair Essential Chicken” is not a real company, but we do have real news…

30 birds* are on their way via McMurray Hatchery and should be arriving as soon as they hatch next week.

I’ve had a few varieties of meat birds the past few years; some purchased locally from retail chain stores and some direct from hatcheries. This time, I’m rolling with a mixed flock; 15 Jumbo Cornish Cross and 15 Murray Big Red, all from McMurray Hatchery.

Check back for updates and a post around mid-July regarding orders once the first 15 are processed.

*this will very likely be the only round of meat birds this year.
