That's a wrap! It's the last week of our season and first and foremost I want to thank you for coming on this journey with us in our first season. We have enjoyed it immensely and hope you have too. Please look for periodic updates throughout the off-season. To celebrate the end of summer and usher in fall this last week's basket is full of autumn specialties. We have included sugar pie pumpkins, delicata squash, Zestar apples fresh from Zilke's farm (they are perfect for both cooking and snacking), heirloom tomatoes, mini bell peppers, tri color beans, a string of Italian Longhots, jalepenos, kale, sunflower seed heads for birds/squirrels, cucumbers, fall herb bundle of rosemary, sage, and oregano, and flowers. We will miss our customers and cannot wait to see you in the spring.

It's September 1st. Pumpkin spice sprinkled down last night and just like that it is fall in the Michigan garden. Delicata squash are suddenly ready and gold finches are going crazy for sunflower seed heads. The Italian Longhots are turning red by the handfuls, ready to be made into a zesty tomato sauce. Serious vegetable gardeners are planting cold weather crops for fall and before we know it the first leaves will be turning color.

Good evening! We are getting ready for Wednesday deliveries. We have a special delivery to announce this week- we added a new member to the Homegrown family, we call her Princess Plum ☺.
Besides that very special addition we are rounding out the end of summer with some sweet corn, carrots, mini bell peppers, jalapenos, spring onions, kale, heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers, broccoli, tri-color beans, and flowers. We hope everyone enjoys these last few weeks of summer because we sure are ☺.

We will have broccoli this week! With crowns as big as my hand 😊.
Everyday we walk the sunflowers to catch heads that are just opening or soft blooms so that once cut they will last as long as possible. The honeybees were taking advantage of the overcast sky and we had to wait patiently on the ladder for them so finish before we could make each cut today. (We just personally think it's rude to steal a flower from a honeybee πŸ˜‚) Our sunflowers grew to over 12 ft tall this year although they were predicted to be between 6-8ft so it's been a little challenging to cut individual heads, even while on a 6ft ladder. I guess they really love the compost we worked in before planting. We will be welcoming a new little pea to this pod this week and probably won't make our usual Wednesday basket post. We will get one up before the end of the week though. Enjoy the cooler weather this week and we'll post an update on Friday/Saturday.

Good afternoon! We hope everyone is having a great week so far. We just finished walking the garden and picking. The sunflowers are coming into full swing and it's Michigan sweet corn season! 🌻🌽🌽
This week we have 4 ears of fresh picked corn, so tender and juicy we ate ours fresh this morning 🀀. We also have heirloom tomatoes, carrots, spring onions, kale, zucchini, cucumbers, bell peppers, tri-color beans, hot peppers, sage, and sunflower bunches. The winter squash are maturing and its hard to believe that our season will be over in about a month.

This cooler weather and regular rain has really helped everything in the garden take a big sigh of relief.
This week we are featuring orange and yellow carrots, tri-color beans, mixed heirloom tomatoes, sweet mini bells, cucumbers, yellow and green zucchini, spring onions, jalepenos and Italian long hots, kale, gourmet blend lettuce, thyme, and a mason jar bouquet. We wish everyone a wonderful week and to stay healthy.

And we have carrots! They look (and smell) amazing. A few goofy ones to add a little character πŸ˜€. πŸ₯•πŸ₯•πŸ₯•πŸ₯•

🎢Summertime and the livin's easy🎢
Ok, gardening is never easy but so much of the garden is peaking or at almost mid-summer peak right now. We are just loving all of the colors as fruit is ripening. This week as promised are huge basil bundles, green or yellow zucchini, cucumbers, first tomatoes, spring onions, beans, sweet and hot peppers, kale, loose leaf lettuce, and flowers. Enjoy and have a wonderful week. πŸŒ±πŸ…πŸŒ»

Well we did it. We went blueberry picking. 😊 Thank you to Blueville Acres Blueberry Farm in Belleville for their absolutely beautiful berries and for being so kind to show us the ropes. We really enjoyed their beautiful set-up. Along with two pints of fresh picked berries we continue with plentiful yellow and green zucchini, cucumbers, green onions, mini sweet bell peppers, two kinds of hot peppers, tricolor beans, a bundle of sage, mammoth dill seed heads, and a summer mason jar bouquet. We hope everyone has a great week. Enjoy!
