In 2012, we opened as a tiny mom-and-pop bakery tucked inside Central Market with nothing more than a dream, a passion for baking, and a love for this community.
We were incredibly grateful to work with York College and call 966 S. George Street our home. We have become a place where so many memories have been made. Every loaf of bread, every pastry, every pizza, and every conversation has been part of a journey that belongs not just to us—but to all of you.
One of the greatest honors of our lives came during COVID. What started as sending 10 or 20 pizzas at a time to the incredible staff at WellSpan York Hospital quickly became something much bigger. Together, our community rallied around our first responders, and from our tiny shop across the street, we sent over a thousand pizzas and meals to those working tirelessly on the front lines.
It reminded us that when greed sleeps; people come together with love and purpose, and extraordinary things happen.
Like so many small businesses, the years that followed brought challenges we never expected. We tried to continue growing by filling an empty space in our plaza with a brewery, but rising construction costs, asbestos remediation, and soaring prices on everyday ingredients like butter, eggs, and chocolate made that dream impossible. We refused to simply pass every cost on to our customers because we knew families everywhere were feeling the weight of the economy too. That weight is just too heavy.
Through it all, one thing never changed: our commitment to our people.
Not one member of our Coper Crust family lost a job or a paycheck during COVID. We chose to shoulder that burden ourselves because the people who work beside us are family. Over the years staff we hired as teenagers have grown into adults, we catered their wedding and they now have children. We've celebrated life's greatest joys, mourned heartbreaking losses, and stood beside one another through it all.
If there's one thing we've learned, it's this:
We don't just make food.
We created a place where people belong.
Copper Crust has always been more than a bakery or a pizzeria. It is a safe place. It is authentic. It is built on sacred love. We are proud of the products we create, but we are even more proud of the people who fill this space every single day.
As we reflect on how far we've come, we'd love to hear from you.
❤️ What is your favorite Cooper Crust memory?
Please feel free to name staff and we will share it with them!
🍕 Did you receive one of our pizzas, celebrate a milestone here, or simply find comfort in our space?
👇 Share your story in the comments. We'd love to celebrate this journey together, because Cooper Crust has always belonged to this community as much as it belongs to us.
Thank you for believing in us, supporting us, and allowing us to be part of your lives. We couldn't have done any of this without you.
Love and Blessings always
