MUDDY MO'S WELCOMES everyone to Yankton Riverboat Days & Summer Arts Festival! We think it oughta be a national holiday because, of course, our coffee shop is named for the Muddy Missouri River. Just a few weekend notes. Madelyn (pictured) will be offering special introductory offers to new South Dakota Magazine readers on Friday. We'll be double-staffed on Saturday to serve all the parade-goers. And we'll then close at 1 p.m. Saturday so our baristas can catch their breath and enjoy the festivities at the river. Have fun, everybody and be safe.

Muddy Mo's is always proud of the Yankton community — and especially so today when we welcomed the new Park Haven facility by the duck pond. Park Haven will provide a place for women who are pregnant and suffer from an addiction so that both they and the baby can get a healthy new start. Yankton has many, many compassionate caregivers. It's a strength of our town that gets overlooked.

IF EVER THERE is a Muddy Mo's Hall of Fame, the first inductee will be Clay Stastny. Clay came to work with us 5-plus years ago when we opened and he's been a rock star ever since. Sadly for us, today is his last day. He's moving to Omaha to continue his education. He's off to bigger things but we'll always be thankful that Clay played a key role in launching Muddy Mo's.

Our favorite summer day is when we can confidently say that our own Muddy Mo's garden is producing enough tomatoes to stock the kitchen. Sara checked the plants out back and she says that day has arrived! Enjoy!

C.J., our bakery chef, just pulled these from the oven! And FYI — we will be open on Saturday, the Fourth of July until 1 p.m. Happy 250th to all our friends.

WE TEND TO OVERDO THINGS at Muddy Mo's — so yes we now have a snow cone fountain and we can make 68 flavors. All the usuals like strawberry, blue raspberry and mango— or salted egg yolk (which is delicious by the way), huckleberry and coconut. We want to do our part to make this a cool summer for everyone in Yankton!

Rainy days are pasta perfect. Our Wednesday lunch special just came out of the oven. It is Chey’s delicious feta and tomato pasta served with garlic toast. Flavorful and delicious!
