Good morning, Riversiders. We are BACK this Wednesday and we’ll see you today.

We’ve got a lot of great specials lined up this week, we’re open until 8 PM tonight, and September is officially here.

That also means it’s time for a brand new September Sub of the Month.

In these photos, you’re looking at our September Subs of the Month from the last three years. A lot of great subs and a lot of memories.

Now we want YOU to help create this year’s.

What should the September Sub of the Month be?

Hot sub, cold sub, wild toppings, special sauce, something completely different. Drop your best idea in the comments.

And of course, if we pick your idea, you’re going home with one on us.

Let’s make this week a good one. We’ll see you today.

We want EVERYONE to show up for Riverside Subs this week. Bring the family, tell your friends, share the word and give us all the support you can. We’re open tomorrow until 8 PM. Let’s make this our biggest week yet.

I’ve been thinking about trying something completely different on Tuesdays.

Not opening Riverside like a normal day.

Instead, what if we did a TUESDAY GRAB & GO from 11 AM until 1 PM?

We would make a limited number of cold subs that morning, wrap them, label them and have them ready to grab.

They would be cheaper than ordering from our regular menu because everything would already be made and ready to go.

That means no customizing.

If the sub comes with lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, oil, vinegar or whatever else is listed, that is exactly how it comes.

No “no onions.”
No “extra mayo.”
No “hold the tomato.”
No substitutions.

You walk in, grab the sub you want, pay and go.

We’d keep it to a few favorites like Italian, turkey and cheese, ham and cheese, and maybe one rotating special.

The whole idea is to make Tuesday fast, simple and affordable.

We would only make a set amount for the day, and once they’re gone, they’re gone.

Tuesday only.
11 AM to 1 PM.

Who would be interested in something like this?

If there’s enough interest, we’d give it a shot.

A little bit of what I gathered from New York…

Faicco’s got me thinking about how sometimes you really don’t need to reinvent a sandwich. Their Italian is built around things like prosciutto, capicola, soppressata, mozzarella, roasted peppers, oil and vinegar. Good ingredients and let them do the work.

Then you look at a place like Pisillo and they take it another direction. Porchetta with provolone, artichokes, arugula and truffle oil. Prosciutto with fresh mozzarella, roasted peppers and balsamic. They even switch up the breads depending on the sandwich, and that definitely got my attention.

Lioni’s in Brooklyn was another one that stood out to me. They have over 150 different heroes, a ton of them have their own names, and fresh mozzarella is basically part of their identity. You immediately know what they’re about.

Then there was Carnegie Diner & Cafe near Times Square. Huge sandwiches, stacked high, and the kind of food people actually stop to take a picture of before they eat it. That got me thinking too, because sometimes a sandwich can be more than just lunch. It can be something people come in specifically to try, talk about and remember.

That’s really what I came home with.

Not one big idea. A bunch of little ones.

Better combinations. Different Italian ingredients. Bread. Fresh mozzarella. Creating sandwiches people actually remember by name. And maybe even building a few that feel like a Riverside experience of their own.

I’ve got some ideas now.

Let’s see what happens when I put a Riverside spin on them.

This business trip turned into a little father and son trip, and honestly I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I came to New York to look around, try different food, visit some well known sub shops, and see what other people are doing that could give me ideas to bring back home to Riverside. My mind is always working when it comes to the business. I’m always looking at ingredients, how things are made, what people are ordering, and what could make us better.

But having my son here with me makes the whole trip different. We’re walking around the city, trying things together, laughing, taking it all in, and making memories while I’m still doing something I love.

That is the part of owning a business that means the most to me. Being able to turn a work trip into quality time with my son. One day he may not remember every place we ate, but I hope he remembers that his dad always made time for him.

We love all of our local farms. Right here in our own backyard in Hellam, you can find Twin Brook Farms.

We stopped by for fresh eggs, but they offer much more than that, including locally raised grass fed Scotch Highland beef and other farm products. There is something special about supporting the people right here in our community who put in the work every day.

Definitely check out Martin Twin Brook Farms and show them some local love.

Good morning, Riversiders.

With this beautiful weather ahead of us, I hope you find a reason to get out and enjoy the weekend.

One thing I always like reminding people is that Riverside is not just a place to grab a quick cold sub. We have the classic cold subs piled the way you like them, cheesesteaks made fresh to order, hot subs, oven grinders, paninis, wings, fries, mozzarella sticks, and a lot of different options depending on what you’re in the mood for.

I know it can be hard figuring out lunch or dinner, especially when everybody wants something different, so take a look through our full menu at www.riversidesubspa.com. You may find something you have not tried yet.

I’ve also been working on some new flavors for September, and I’m excited to start sharing what we have coming.

We’re here until 8 PM today.

Today I had the opportunity to meet with Eastern York School District Business Manager Ken Marx to learn more about where Eastern York High School stands following the tornado and, most importantly, where the money we are raising could actually help.

There have been a lot of questions surrounding this fundraiser, especially about insurance and taxpayer dollars. People have asked, “Shouldn’t insurance cover this?” or “Isn’t this what our school taxes are for?”

The answer is a little more complicated than simply yes or no.

Insurance and taxpayer dollars will absolutely play a major role in repairing and rebuilding the school. However, that does not necessarily mean every dollar of every loss is replaced.

Ken gave me a great example during our conversation. Let’s say the school has a band trailer that would cost $14,000 to replace today. Because of depreciation and the value of the existing trailer, insurance may only provide $10,000 toward replacing it. That leaves a $4,000 difference that still has to come from somewhere.

And that is just one example.

There can be differences between what something was worth before the tornado and what it actually costs to replace it today. There can also be additional needs that come along with getting the school completely back on its feet that aren’t necessarily part of simply repairing a damaged building.

We also discussed the auditorium, which suffered significant tornado and rain damage. When that auditorium is finally restored, there may be opportunities for these donations to help with reopening needs, including things necessary to bring students, staff, families and the community back together for a reopening ceremony or other school needs that arise throughout this process.

That is why this fundraiser was never about trying to replace insurance, replace taxpayer funding or suggest that the school district isn’t taking care of its responsibilities.

It is about filling the gaps.

After meeting with the district today, I feel even better knowing there are legitimate ways this money can help Eastern York High School beyond what insurance and other funding ultimately cover.

Most importantly, we have the support of the school. They know what Riverside Subs is trying to accomplish, and they know that our goal has always been to give back to the community that has supported us.

As the rebuilding process continues, the district will have a much clearer picture of where additional funds can make the greatest difference. That is where we want this money to go.

So if you stand with Eastern York, if this school means something to you, or if you simply want to help our students, teachers and community come back stronger after what happened, please consider donating.

Nobody is obligated to give. But for those who are willing and able, even a small donation becomes part of something much bigger.

Thank you to everyone who has already supported this effort and believed in what we are trying to do.
