The last Sevenars concert in Worthington at the Academy in Ireland Street is always my favorite. My Gateway classmate from long ago, Jerry Noble, stars with his wife and friends. Although Bob Sparkman is no longer with us, his legacy continues.

Sunday August 16th at 4:00 PM, right after the Conwell Sunday celebration across the street.

Very excited to hear the Sparky Quintet this Sunday (4pm) - what I heard coming from the hall as they rehearsed today was so fantastic!! What a way to close the season! 🎶💜

This Sunday in Worthington. How wonderful is this? ♥️

And still more great music is coming this weekend with pianist Paul-André Bempéchat's Beethoven, Sunday August 2 at 4!

Renowned for his interpretations of the First Viennese School, Brahms, Schumann and Chopin, Franco-Canadian Pianist Paul-André Bempechat is a self-styled, eclectic product of the Manhattan School of Music and The Juilliard School, where he worked with the legendary performer-teachers Artur Balsam, Felix Galimir, and Nadia Reisenberg in piano and chamber music, and Martin Isepp in vocal accompanying.

Decorated as Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture, and as Honorary Fellow of the Royal Academic Chapel at Uppsala University, M. Bempéchat has toured in virtually every country in Europe, including major appearances at the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Barbican Centre London, the Philharmonics in Meiningen, Stockholm, Helsinki, Rotterdam and Belgrade; he has also appeared at the Wiener Festwochen, the Husum Festival of Rarities for the Piano, the Caramoor and Holland Festivals, and most recently Uppsala University, where he was Artist-in-Residence during Spring 2023. Colleagues and critics alike have hailed him as a singularly lucid, introspective interpreter capable of drawing audiences into a near-palpable relationship with the select composers he performs.

Paul-André Bempéchat began recording Beethoven's 32 Sonatas for in Spring 2025. His Sevenars program will include two very famous Sonatas (the "Moonlight" and "Appassionata") and two great ones that are less famous (Op. 22 and Op. 90).

...still starting to gear up for our exciting opening on July 12, but wanted to grab the chance to brag about the piano team of Mada & Hugh in advance of July 19! Please read below about this extraordinary duo!

The Mada & Hugh Piano Duo, comprised of Romanian-born pianist Mădălina-Claudia Dănilă and Korean-American pianist Hugh Sung, stands at the forefront of innovative 4-hand piano performances. Their dynamic partnership has captivated audiences worldwide, earning them prestigious accolades, including first prize at the 2024 London International Competition and the 2023 Charleston International Competition, as well as second prize at the 2024 American International Competition. In 2025 they performed a recital as part of the George Enescu Festival in Bucharest, Romania, one of the world’s most important classical music events. They are proud members of the Petrof Art Family, representing Petrof pianos in their performances.

Mădălina-Claudia Dănilă, an internationally acclaimed concert pianist, has mesmerized audiences globally with her profound artistry and versatility. She has triumphed in numerous prestigious competitions, including the International Piano Competition in Vigo, Spain, and the Charleston 20th Century Music Competition. Recently, she was invited by world-renowned violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter to debut a solo piano recital at the Ruhr Klavierfestival in Germany, one of the most prestigious piano festivals in the world. Mădălina is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in piano at Temple University*, further honing her skills and expanding her academic achievements.

Hugh Sung is celebrated as one of the finest collaborative pianists of his generation. His distinguished career includes performances and recordings with renowned artists such as Aaron Rosand, Hilary Hahn, Julius Baker, and flutist Jasmine Choi. He has worked extensively with the Philadelphia and Baltimore Symphony Orchestras and served for 19 years at The Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia as Director of Student Recitals and Instrumental Accompaniment. Hugh co-founded AirTurn, a company that pioneered digital sheet music with hands-free page-turning pedals, and taught for nine years on the ArtistWorks platform, where he worked with students around the world through its innovative video exchange system. He currently serves as Vice President of Cunningham Piano Company, representing Yamaha and Bösendorfer pianos.

Together, Mădălina and Hugh bring a unique blend of classical mastery and modern innovation to their performances. Their repertoire spans from timeless classics to their own dazzling arrangements of popular tunes, thrilling audiences with exceptional artistry and creativity. The Mada & Hugh Piano Duo continues to enchant listeners across the globe, establishing themselves as a formidable force in the world of piano duos. Their collaboration not only showcases their individual talents but also creates a synergy that elevates their performances to new heights.

*Incidentally, as Mădălina works towards her doctorate at Temple University, founded by Russell H. Conwell, it is particularly meaningful to host her at the Academy in South Worthington, which was also founded by Russell Conwell! (The current Director of Sevenars was also a Conwell Fellow for her doctorate at Temple - resonances everywhere, but especially in the concert hall! 💜🎶)

Many of you joined us at Velvet the past few Fridays as Chef Michaelangelo Wescott brought his culinary magic to Velvet at the Worthington Golf Club. Those evenings were filled with insanely wonderful food, laughter, and community. Michaelangelo and the Velvet team want to thank everyone who came out to join us in our collaboration.

As life often does, it has taken us in a slightly different direction. Michaelangelo is going to take another bite at the ‘Apple 🤭 and is reimagining apple as a taco restaurant, with his son chipping in.

Building and running a restaurant takes tremendous courage, heart, and dedication, and we wish him every success.

While our collaboration was shorter than either of us expected, I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to work together, to learn from him, and even more grateful that our love and friendship remains strong.

Who knows when—but I predict we will see special guest chef appearances at Velvet from time to time.

In the meantime, Velvet will be open this Friday, and we look forward to serving dinner in his style.

Thank you for supporting local restaurants, local chefs, the people who work to make an evening out a little more special, and thank you for making the trek our little corner of the Berkshires. We are fortunate to have such an amazing community.

And to MA, all the love in the world. Here's to your continued success. ♥️♥️♥️
