Take a look at this awesome newspaper article that Woodbridge Downtown posted from the 20’s. The Reo Diner was previously known as the Hy-Way Diner and has been open since the mid-late 1920’s. Thank you for this post, so cool to see!
📰 This advertisement was on Page 2 of The Woodbridge Leader newspaper published on Friday afternoon, August 6, 1926.
📅 𝙉𝙤𝙬 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙨𝙤 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙪𝙨 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝙤𝙛?
🍽️ It announced the opening of a diner named the 𝗛𝘆-𝗪𝗮𝘆 𝗗𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿. A couple of years later this place was described in a news item as "𝘢 𝘵𝘺𝘱𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘭𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘩 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘢 𝘥𝘰𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘪𝘥𝘥𝘭𝘦." You can see that cleanliness 🧹 was a major selling point when it was launched.
It may not qualify as a historical event to the Historical Association of Woodbridge Township or the The History of Diners in New Jersey. But we believe it is important enough to the history of the Woodbridge Downtown.
❓Any guesses why?
