Cowboy's Train Station

Cowboy's Train Station Nostalgic sandwich shop with indoor/outdoor dining options. This restaurant was originally opened in 1976 by Evan Gray "Bill" Horn.

Horn traveled to the Raleigh/ Durham area and bought the caboose, set it up as a sandwich shop on Patterson Avenue. Patrons ordered at a small, low window at the side of the caboose and could eat on tables in the front, a box car, or in their cars. Later his son, Bill Craig Horn, took over and was owner of the restaurant for many years. Eventually, it was purchased by the eldest son, Larry Horn,

who has completely renovated the interior and exterior and changed the name to Cowboy's Train Station. The box car has been remodeled with indoor seating, featuring a train, vintage spoon chandelier and nostalgic memorabilia. It also features a courtyard area with bistro lighting and outdoor ambience. There is a gazebo and outdoor tables in the front for dining also. We are excited and happy to share this updated, family tradition, 3rd generation, landmark destination, with many of the locals here, and the loyal, who sometimes travel from many areas, for what many have called " Winston- Salem's Greatest Hot Dog." There are now many more signature sandwiches added, as well as, the traditional items. Both breakfast and lunch will be served Monday thru Saturday. This renovation is a tribute of love to his Dad and Mom, honoring their dream of opening up an extremely popular hot dog destination for the many fateful patrons in the area. In 1989 The Little Red Caboose was called the home of the best hot dog in Forsyth County by the Winston-Salem Journal.
