Homegrown tomatoes now on all sandwiches(that come w tomato) and upon request in all salads or anything else just because you love them (cherry and heirloom). Cucumber tomato appetizer for all. Blistered shish*to peppers from garden a great side. Also, explore garden, historic barn and cut some flowers while out here! So beautiful. Organic. When you come for lunch this week ask for a mason jar to cut a flower bouquet from the garden($12) or as much basil as you want from the garden ($4, make a great pesto dinner). Also let us know if you want to buy some tomatoes, cucumbers or banana peppers. Just processed 24lbs cucumber and a bunch of mint for cucumber-mint sorbet coming soon!

Awesome work by Alexandrea Pangburn on this beautiful new mural featuring our (at least two) resident mockingbirds, KY coffeetree leaves and flowers, and the bee. Fun to see the process that starts w a “squiggle grid” of random numbers and letters that she then uses as coordinates for the painting. This was done with spray paint. Cheers to such a talented artist who grew up in Wi******er, now a great muralist with works around the country, choosing KY as home :)

The cows we appreciate for your burgers come from a couple miles away in Wi******er at Wholesome Living Farm. They are pasture raised without antibiotics, steroids, or hormones. Moreover, the burgers are made from all the muscle of cows (except the tenderloin) that would often be used for steaks. This differs from many burgers that are comprised of residual trim meat from many animals after the steaks are butchered. This is as good as it gets for quality ground beef and quite a gem of a farm practice right here down the road. We are Wi******er's only restaurant that serves Wholesome Living Farm beef. We are celebrating the artwork of muralist Alexandrea Pangburn, a GRC alumna, who will be gracing our driveway entry wall with a new mural this week! It will be a beautiful homage to nature of this hilltop spot. Some of her artwork is on display in the cafe, you may have seen a mural she co-created last year in downtown Wi******er, and when you come for lunch this week you may see her in action!

Artist Statement:

Alexandrea Pangburn is a large-scale muralist and animal realism artist currently based in Lexington, Kentucky. Originally from Lexington and spent her high school years in Wi******er - Alex is also a University of Kentucky alumni. She moved to Colorado in 2017 where she was able to fully immerse herself in the inspiration of the west. Inspired by nature and the juxtaposition of organic shapes and lines; the combo of her realistic style and the big bold shapes she loves using in her work, focus on expressing the details of plants, birds, and animals to bring light to their recognizable physical traits. Alex has done large-scale work in multiple states throughout the US such as; Colorado, North Dakota, Arizona, Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia, Georgia, and Florida. You can find many available paintings of hers, which are available through galleries in Colorado, Oklahoma, and Kentucky.

The intention behind her work is to bring awareness to the local flora and fauna so that we may understand and better educate ourselves on how we can conserve these species. It is important to preserve their habitat so they can continue to be around for generations beyond us.

Additionally, her passion is being the Executive Director of Babe Walls; a 501c3 non-profit supporting women and non-binary artists in the street art scene.

Hi, All! We just wanted to share our new little place, Cafe 627, here in Wi******er.

We are located at the historic Old Rock Barn in Wi******er. Originally built by Captain Billy Bush back in the 1790’s. The cafe space is in the original homestead from the late 1700’s-early 1800’s, and myself and a friend renovated it over an eight month period. This was once a community hub for early Wi******er, known then as the Bush Settlement. We are doing our best to return it to that place.
Cafe 627 is an anchor business for a gap year school named the Kentucky River Field School. The goal is to teach young adults between high school and college life skills. We have a working farm on the property, and the goal is to teach them a range of skills from seed, to the growing of veggies and flowers, to how they are used in the cafe, all the efforts and techniques to bring them to plate, and then the business of the cafe. Profit, loss, labor hours, etc.
We source all our beef, chicken, cheeses from local farmers (Stonecross Farm, Wholesome Living, Wildcat Mountain). Our veggies are from us or farmers at the Lexington farmers market when we don’t have enough. Our desserts are made in house, with the addition of some amazing cheesecakes from Pamela from Savory Sweets in Jackson, KY. Our mayos, aiolis, and all dressings are made in house with eggs from our chickens.

It’s a special little place that we are incredibly proud of, and would love to have you all come out and give us a try.

The property is amazing, and you’re welcome to walk through the greenhouse, the veggie fields, the half mile walking trail, etc. Bring your family and you friends and a joy good food served by nice folks and support a really solid idea.
