YOU GUYS. 😳 THIS WAS THE COFFEE SHOP BUILDING IN 2022!!

Every once in a while, I stumble across old photos that stop me in my tracks.

Peeling paint. Boarded-up windows. Weathered siding. Makeshift stairs. A building that, from the outside, probably looked like it had already seen its best days.

Looking at these pictures now, it’s almost hard to believe this is the same building so many of you came to know as Chaos Coffee Company.

There have been countless hours, countless dollars, plenty of ā€œWHAT HAVE WE GOTTEN OURSELVES INTO?!ā€ moments, and more projects than I could ever list, but little by little, this old building came back to life and after everything it has been through — including the fire — these pictures hit a little differently now.

I do want to be transparent about something, though.

A lot of people assume that rebuilding Chaos in this building is a definite and to be honest, I thought it was also!!

Right now, it isn’t.

We’ve had some challenges involving another property we own and the town’s Planning Board that have forced us to seriously think about how much more we are willing to invest in Wilton going forward.

That’s not meant as a threat or a dramatic announcement. It’s simply the truth.

Rebuilding after a fire is already a huge decision — financially, emotionally and practically. When you add uncertainty about future projects and investment in the community, you have to stop and ask some difficult questions.

Do we rebuild here? Do we take Chaos somewhere else? What makes the most sense for our family and our business?

I don’t have those answers yet.

What I DO know is that I’m incredibly proud of what we did with this building.

We took something that looked forgotten and gave it another life.

These pictures remind me that Chaos didn’t start with a beautiful building. It started with seeing possibility where other people might not have and choosing to heavily invest where others haven’t.

Wherever the next chapter happens, I think that’s still exactly who we are. ā¤ļøā˜•ļø

There’s something I want to address directly today — not because I feel obligated to respond to every Facebook comment, but because something that began on my personal page has now been deliberately tied to Chaos Coffee.

Screenshots of my personal profile and posts have been shared publicly, I have been identified as the owner of Chaos Coffee, and people have been encouraged to boycott this business because of my personal political beliefs.

So I have a question:

When did political disagreement become justification for trying to damage a local business simply because its owner doesn’t share your beliefs?

Yep…I own Chaos Coffee and I am INCREDIBLY proud of what that name has represented in this community.

Chaos has donated, sponsored, fundraised, supported local organizations, helped families and stepped up when people needed someone to step up. Some of that you’ve seen. A lot of it you haven’t. And I can promise you that I have NEVER asked for assurance that whoever is receiving things from me agrees with everything I do and say.

I’ve never asked who someone voted for before helping them.

I’ve never asked their political affiliation before supporting their cause or their newly formed charity.

I’ve never required someone to share my values before welcoming them through our doors.

I want to make something else abundantly clear:

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO AGREE WITH THE WOMAN WHO OWNS CHAOS COFFEE TO BE WELCOMED AT CHAOS COFFEE.

You can be a Democrat.
You can be a Republican.
You can be an Independent.
You can hate politics altogether.

I DON’T CARE!!

I’ll still pour your coffee, I’ll still donate to your fundraiser, I’ll still celebrate your accomplishments, and if your family genuinely needs help and I’m in a position to help, I’m not going to ask to see your voter registration card first.

That’s the difference.

I have never made my kindness toward this community conditional upon political agreement. And I refuse to accept the idea that the community’s support of my business should make my personal voice conditional upon political agreement either.

Yes, this community has supported Chaos Coffee tremendously and Chaos has supported this community right back. ā¤ļø

That’s not a debt one side owes the other. That’s what community is supposed to look like!!

Of course, every person has the right to decide where they spend their money. If my personal beliefs mean you no longer want to purchase coffee from my business, that’s your choice and your right, but perhaps we should all think about what we’re creating when political disagreement becomes:

ā€œFind out where she works.ā€
ā€œFind out what business she owns.ā€
ā€œNow let’s make sure nobody supports it.ā€

Because eventually there won’t be much of a community left — just ideological teams doing background checks on one another before deciding whose livelihood deserves support.

I don’t know about any of you, but I don’t want that sort of community.

A real community is made up of people who can disagree — sometimes profoundly — and still recognize one another’s humanity.

That’s what Chaos Coffee has always stood for and that’s what it will continue to stand for. ā¤ļøā˜•

WHO’S READY?!?! šŸŽ‰

I don’t think I’ve published a photo of what this coffee trailer is lookin’ like! šŸ˜

Things will be different (they have to be, right?!) — we’ll be operating in a space the size of a peanut shell compared to what we’re used to, our inventory has been scaled down immensely to accommodate and our hours/locations will look different eventually, but here’s the thing I will always promise to you —

THE HEART OF CHAOS ISN’T CHANGING! ā¤ļø

We’ll still care way too much about your coffee. We’ll still remember your order, ask about your family and your job, celebrate your good news and listen when life absolutely sucks. We’ll still try ridiculous drink combinations, probably make things harder than they need to be, LAUGH A LOT, love our community fiercely and do our very best to make wherever we are feel a little bit like home because I’ve learned something through all of this:

Chaos was never just the building.

It wasn’t the tables, the walls, the equipment or how much stuff we could fit behind the counter.

It was always the people. ā¤ļø

So yes, things are going to look different for a bit.

They’re supposed to.

I’m not trying to recreate what I had anymore.

I’m taking everything I loved about it and making room for what comes next and I have a feeling that what comes next is going to be pretty damn special. ā¤ļø

EVERY COMEBACK DESERVES A STATEMENT! šŸ’„

Today, ours is about 50 feet long!

This mural isn’t just paint on plywood. It’s a reminder that while our doors are still closed, Chaos Coffee Company is very much alive!

We can’t thank enough for taking a temporary wall and turning it into something that makes us smile every time we drive by.

If you happen to drive past, we’d absolutely love it if you’d grab a photo with the mural, post it, and tag Chaos Coffee Company. We’d love to fill our feed with your pictures while we count down to reopening. We may not be able to welcome you inside just yet, but seeing your photos and your support means more to us than you know.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR STANDING BY US DURING THIS JOURNEY! We really can’t wait to welcome you all into our space again! ā¤ļøā˜•ļø

SMALL BUSINESS OWNER DISCOVERS HER BIGGEST EXPENSE LIVES AT HOME — 🫪

We’d like to thank one local community member for her unwavering commitment to quality control by sampling all the frappes before any customer could get to them. She also insists she’s ā€œjust here to visitā€ despite me doing her laundry. šŸ˜‰

As we continue putting Chaos Coffee Company back together, we’ve got a fun little project in mind. 🫟

We’re looking for someone who can create a simple, adorable graffiti-style mural on the plywood covering our windows. Nothing over the top—just something fun, welcoming, and full of Chaos personality that makes people smile as they walk by.

If you’re an artist (or know someone who is), we’d love to see your work! Drop a photo in the comments or send us a message! We’ll supply the paint (and any other supplies needed)…YOU create a simple masterpiece!

We’d love to turn these temporary boards into something that reminds everyone that CHAOS IS STILL HERE…we’re just getting ready for our next chapter. šŸ˜‰ā¤ļø

Cold Brew is absolutely NOT the same at all coffee shops and since I’m biased I have no problem saying that I LOVE our Cold Brew! In fact, it’d be my 2nd choice drink only behind a Shaken Espresso.
