What many people don’t know is that we’ve had conversations back and forth about potentially having a concession stand on the inside a while back, serving our fried specialties, the gizzards, livers, and everything else we’re known for.
This is a Southern Wilson thing. When people come here, this is what they think about. We’ve been part of this community for generations, and we believed it would’ve made sense to bring a local business like ours into a project that’s meant to help revive Wilson.
But they flat out refused it.
So when people ask or assume that we’re against the ballpark, that’s not the case at all. We’re not against it. We’re against the idea of local businesses, especially right here in the downtown area, not being given a real opportunity to grow alongside something this big.
That’s our story.
Dear Gizzards & Livers Store,
To be this close to you, yet separated by a few rails, a wall, and whatever sense of self control we pretend to have… it just don’t sit right with us.
We can see you from these stadium like a mirage made of grease and good decisions. Folks around us watching baseball, and we over here watching you… clocking every plate that comes out that window like it’s the real scoreboard.
There’s a comfort in knowing you’re there… steady as Sunday dinner, frying up gizzards and livers like somebody’s grandma still running the kitchen and ain’t in no rush. Prices so good they feel like they forgot to update ‘em since 2016, and portions like you’re personally trying to make sure nobody leaves hungry or emotionally unfulfilled.
We sit here, trying to focus on the game, but truth be told… if somebody hits a foul ball our direction, we might just let it go if it means we don’t lose sight of that fryer.
But just know if they ever let us bring in outside food…we’ll be watching basesball with crispy chicken livers in one hand and an ice cold Cheerwine in the other.
Until then, just keep doing what you do. We’ll be right here… watching, longing, and pretending peanuts are enough.
With love and an empty stomach,
Us
