Yesterday, we celebrated Bastille Day unaware of the shocking, tragic attack that took place in Nice around 5 pm our time.
When we learned the news, our focus turned from one of celebration to one of loss, sympathy, and solidarity for the victims and citizens of France as their endure their third mass terror attack in 18 months.
With all of the loss, violence, and senseless killings happening both here at home and abroad, perhaps you've come across this Mr. Rogers quote: “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”
For example, during the attack last night, one couple lost their 8-month baby, who was in a stroller. They put their plea for help on Facebook. It was immediately shared more than 22,000 times. An hour later, a young woman who had found the baby and taken him to safety at her home in Nice, was able to reunite the baby with his parents because of the photo she discovered on Facebook.
This is not the the 'thank you' we had hoped to write, yet we send our sincere and heartfelt thanks to those who shared about and supported our little event, but more importantly, to those supporting the people who were visiting and living in Nice.
