The beautiful and briny sea bean 🌿🫛🌱

At Seabird, you’ll see these little guys everywhere—accompanying oysters, garnishing salads, even pulverized into a powder and sprinkled over crudo. They’re salt tolerant succulents that naturally grow in marshlands along the coast.

We get ours from the UNCW Aquaculture Program—the same farm where some of our Black Bass is raised. Originally the folks over at UNCW were growing them as part of a closed loop aquaponic cycle, filtering the water that the bass swim in through plant fertilization. As soon as our chefs tasted them while touring the facility, they became a tasty staple on our plates! Sea beans are great sources of vitamins A, B, and C as well as calcium, magnesium, and iodine. They’re said to provide antioxidants and boost the immune system—plus they’re salty and delicious.

We’re so appreciative of the work that the UNCW Aquaculture researchers do to forefront environmental responsibility while driving mariculture technology forward. They’ll be bringing a fresh crop through our doors soon—come try them for yourself!

OYSTER HAPPY HOUR

Tonight we’re serving Seabirdies from These beauties are mild, plump, and delicious—plus, they’re named after us! When we opened our doors five years ago, the team at Hold Fast dedicated the oysters from one of their leases exclusively to us, and the rest is history. Thank you, Matt, Kim, and Violet for being such amazing people to work with—and for growing such stellar shells.

Stop in tonight from 5 to 6pm in our bar area only to enjoy these oysters for $1 each. Seating is strictly first come, first served, so hop in line a little early!

There’s nothing quite like a perfectly shucked oyster. Its every characteristic is shaped by the tides and the farmer’s efforts. It arrives at Seabird, fresh and clean. Our shucker takes the time to carefully separate the meat from its shell. Finally it’s served, thoughtfully presented to honor the food and all the hands that touched it along the way.

All that, for only $1 🦪✨

That’s right, it’s Oyster Happy Hour again—and we’ve got one of our favorites: Seabirdies from !

Tonight from 5 to 6pm in the bar area only, they’re $1 a shell. Seating is first come, first served, so grab your spot in line early!

We couldn’t let this Earth Day pass us by without shining a light on some of the most important folks in our restaurant—the farmers, fisher people, and foragers whose hard work and dedication we get the privilege to see everyday.

These are the ones who inspire us, educate us, and lead us in our sustainability efforts. Our friends in these photos and so many others we work with have such an amazing working relationship with Mother Nature—whether through farming thousands of little water filters, tending acres of land with organic practices, or hand selecting just the right amount of wild shellfish.

This week through May 1st (our 5 year birthday 🎉) we’ll be donating 5% of raw oyster sales to in support of their efforts to bring regenerative agriculture to a bigger segment of the food and beverage industry.

Stay tuned here for more birthday fun—maybe a few giveaways 🪩✨

We are so grateful for the work we get to do this Earth Day and every day. Thank you for supporting this community 🩵

The women of Seabird have got their hands full!

Not only do these folks work day in and day out to make our space one of acceptance, joy, respect, and community; but they build their lives on these same principles. Seabird wouldn’t be what it is without these exceptional people—and we want to give them their flowers 💐✨

On this last day of Women’s History Month and beyond, we want to say thank you. Thank you for being leaders on the floor, in the kitchen, and behind the scenes. Thank you for being a part of our team. Thank you all for being you 🩵

To those who had their hands too full to be a part of our photo shoot with , we are so grateful to know and work with you.
