🟢Street Fest Is Taking Place As Scheduled Tonight, July 16th, 2026 Willimantic 3rd Thursday Street Fest!🟢
🚨PLEASE READ: AIR QUALITY ADVISORY FOR TONIGHT'S FEST
Due to wildfire smoke affecting Connecticut, air quality is expected to be reduced this evening. While we are looking forward to a wonderful night downtown, we encourage everyone to make the best decision for themselves and their families based on their individual health needs.
If you're planning to join us, here are a few recommendations:
💧 EVERYONE!
Stay well hydrated.
Avoid strenuous physical activity if the air appears especially smoky.
Listen to your body—if you begin feeling unwell, head indoors.
🟢 Healthy adults and teens
Most people can enjoy the event, but consider taking breaks indoors if you begin to experience coughing, throat irritation, or shortness of breath. Many of our Main Street businesses will be open with air conditioning ON - pay them a visit!
Stay hydrated throughout the evening.
If you'll be spending several hours outdoors, you may wish to wear a well-fitting N95 respirator, especially if you are sensitive to smoke.
🟠 Children
Children are more sensitive to smoke because their lungs are still developing.
Consider shortening your visit, encourage frequent breaks indoors, and watch for coughing or signs of irritation.
🟠 Older adults (65+)
Older adults may be more susceptible to the effects of fine particle pollution.
Limit prolonged outdoor exposure and consider taking breaks inside air-conditioned buildings as needed.
🔴 People with asthma, COPD, heart disease, or other lung or cardiovascular conditions
Consider limiting or postponing outdoor activities this evening.
Keep rescue medications with you if prescribed.
If you experience chest tightness, persistent coughing, wheezing, or shortness of breath, move indoors immediately and seek medical care if symptoms become severe.
🤰 Pregnant individuals
Consider reducing the amount of time spent outdoors and avoiding unnecessary exertion.
