Interesting read.
âš¾ EXCUSE US, but we need to discuss Williamsport's CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED baseball legacy âš¾
So let us get this straight...
1790: George Washington visits Williamsport to consider us for THE NATION'S CAPITAL. Then ditches us for a literal swamp. Thanks, George. 🙄
Fast forward to today and we're JUST NOW connecting the dots on our baseball royalty:
- DOUBLEDAY HILL (named after THE "inventor" of baseball himself)
- Dave Cole (1930-2011) - Born and raised HERE, pitched for the Braves, Cubs, and Phillies from 1950-1955
- Nick Adenhart's final resting place (LA Angels pitcher, hometown hero taken way too soon)
- Billy Doub Field (where future legends are made)
Dave Cole was literally a Williamsport High School standout, state champion in soccer AND basketball, pitched for our town team, worked at Sears then Mack Truck, served on town council, and was a Lions Club member. This man WAS Williamsport.
P.S. - Dave Cole once said when traded to the Phillies: "That's too bad; they're the only team I can beat." LEGEND. 💅
