Shelter Cove has a brand-new place where people are meeting each other, laughing a little louder, and staying outside just a little longer. The new pickleball courts have quickly become part of the rhythm of summer, bringing together locals, weekend visitors, and first-time players who simply wanted to see what all the excitement was about. It's been fun watching a project years in the making finally come to life, and even better seeing it already filled with friendly competition and plenty of encouragement between games.

One of the best parts is how naturally the day comes together. Play a few matches in the morning, wander through town, then stop by for lunch or a well-earned beer before heading back out to explore the coast. Shelter Cove has always been a place to slow down, and now there's one more reason to stay a little longer.

The day before the Fourth of July always had its own kind of magic. Everyone's arriving from somewhere, the patio starts filling up early, and there's that unmistakable feeling that the weekend has officially begun. This group was soaking up every minute of it—raising a glass, laughing loud enough for the next table to join in, and reminding us that some of the best summer memories don't need much more than good people and a cold beer.

Rumor has it there's a celebrity in this photo... but we're not naming names. 😉 You'll have to make your own guesses. Some beers are brewed to celebrate a season. This one was brewed to celebrate a community. Reggae On The River Sol Lager is our collaboration with the incredible team behind Reggae on the River, one of Humboldt County's most iconic music festivals. Every trip deserves something to remember it by, and around here it often comes home in a cooler. Whether it's a few cans for the drive, something to share with friends back home, or simply a reminder of a weekend spent on the Lost Coast, local beer has a funny way of bringing the memories back with the first sip. It's one of my favorite traditions to see people deciding which beers are making the trip home before they've even finished lunch.

Dave's Pilsner, Whistle Punk IPA, Mexican Lager, Chasing Rainbows and our core beers that are all brewed right here in Shelter Cove, just a few steps from where they're poured. If you're packing up and heading home, don't forget to save a little room. Vacation eventually ends, but a good beer has a way of helping it last just a little longer.

A few days ago I got a text: "Hey...your high school friends are here."

Sure enough, Mike and Bryan had rolled into Shelter Cove on the Backcountry Discovery Route. I hadn't seen the two of them in decades and with my 30-year high school reunion coming up this year, it felt like perfect timing. We spent the evening catching up, laughing about stories I probably shouldn't repeat, and picking up right where we left off.

That's one of my favorite things about Gyppo. You never know who's going to walk through the door. Sometimes it's travelers discovering the Lost Coast. Sometimes it's neighbors. And sometimes it's the people who knew you before life took everyone in different directions.

To my Mountain View High School crew in Bend, Oregon—thanks for taking the long way to get here. If you're passing through Shelter Cove, grab a beer with us. You never know who might be waiting at the next table.
