Summer is winding down, but there has been so much happening at Mosaic! 💛

From farmers markets and challah sell-outs to weddings, milestone birthdays, camp dinners and community celebrations, it has been a very full summer. And somewhere in the middle of all of it, I had an unexpected full-circle moment that reminded me just how much owning a business is about learning, growing and doing better the next time.

Getting back to life. ❤️

This week has felt a little more normal — getting back into the rhythm of work, seeing the café get busier, preparing for weddings and the High Holidays, and looking ahead to our next Israeli Brunch.

At the same time, I’m learning that moving forward doesn’t mean leaving the memories behind. Sometimes work, food, family, and memories all overlap in ways you don’t expect.

After losing my mom, planning her meal of consolation brought me back to the desserts she lovingly made for our family. Every cookie, bar, and sweet treat carried a story, reminding me how food has the power to bring us home, no matter how much time has passed.

The Cocoon of Shiva

One of the most unexpected parts of grief is what happens after the funeral—when the visitors begin to leave, the meals stop coming, and life slowly starts moving forward, even if you're not ready.

Shiva creates something incredibly special: a cocoon. A space where you're surrounded by love, community, and permission to simply grieve. But eventually, that cocoon opens, and stepping back into everyday life can feel overwhelming.

With my mom in the ICU after emergency surgery, I've been reminded how quickly life can change—and how food has a way of bringing comfort when words sometimes can't.

A week full of community ❤️

One of the greatest joys of running the café isn't just the food—it's watching people gather. This past week we welcomed Men's Club members before their program, families celebrating the start of summer, grandparents and grandchildren sharing lunch, students studying for finals, teachers taking a break from training, residents from Ovation, and so many friends catching up over a meal.

These moments remind us that a café can be so much more than a place to eat. It can be a place to connect, build relationships, and strengthen community. That's why we love what we do.

We're also excited to share that the café will be open all summer with our regular hours, and we hope you'll stop by and spend some time with us. ☀️
