šŸŒ§ļø Rain isn’t always the problem. Sometimes it’s what we’ve built underneath it.

When streets are covered almost entirely in concrete and asphalt, water has fewer places to soak naturally into the ground. Adding trees, rain gardens and other planted areas can help capture rainfall while making our neighborhoods greener at the same time.

Sometimes better cities simply mean making a little more room for nature. 🌿

This weekend!

Highlights of the 2026 Kensington Model Train Show, Sept. 12 and 13!

The annual Kensington Train Show, which features model trains and fun for all ages, is back at Kensington Town Hall (3710 Mitchell St., Kensington MD) and will be open for visitors on September 12 and 13, 2026.

The National Capital Trackers, a local club, will run ā€œOā€ gauge electric trains on multiple layouts, with flourishes such as train whistles, steam, depots and bridges, giving visitors lots to marvel at.

The train show will also feature performances by Orleans Express (Saturday, Sept. 12, 11:30am to 1:30pm), David Weaver and Friends (Saturday, Sept 12, 2-4pm), and Matthew Dodd will share railroad stories and songs (Sunday, Sept. 13, 1-4).

The popular I Spy Train Game is also back - kids can play as they check out the model trains. Completed game cards will be submitted for prizes from Noyes Children’s Library Foundation. There will also be train tables for kids to play on and coloring sheets available in a quiet space.

The boys and girls of Scouting America Troop #439 will be selling hot dogs and snacks on-site both days.

The family-friendly ā€œAll Aboard for Kensingtonā€ Train Show is sponsored by the Ditto Group of Long & Foster Real Estate and the Town of Kensington. Proceeds benefit the Noyes Children’s Library Foundation (noyeslibraryfoundation.org) and the Kensington Historical Society (kensingtonhistory.org).
