Oh, North Carolina. My heart breaks for you and all the regions suffering in the aftermath.
Too many people never see, or think, about these places. Places where people don’t have a lot or need a lot or want a lot. They go to work to live. They live to love. And one day a strong wind takes it all away. The region of the storm devastation contains some of the most impoverished communities in this country. But these communities are built upon strong backs and strong spirits. They’re not big on charity, and they have good reason to not trust a lot from outside. Show them that there are good people who respect the way they live. Celebrate their survival by contributing what you can.

Last night i found out a Friend I hold dear, a most precious human, lost her race with life on Monday. Not a long-term medical battle, not a tragic car accident, just a little person trying to survive in a world gone madly wrong. She was a young person with an old soul. Her connection to her ancestry, her ability to join words together in a most meaningful way, and her perspective on the planet so full of potential were driving forces in her life. Sadly, her demons won. I am broken and I am sad and I am diminished by the loss of a person that drove me to do more. I will climb a mountain tomorrow, physically and emotionally, and I will honor this simple, kind, loving spirit. Sending you Beet and Fennel Soup, and to the Stars, AOH. 💔

Last year, we stumbled upon a precious treasure at Wright's Farm Restaurant that seems to have been left behind by accident. We found a beautifully preserved wedding album, filled with nostalgic snapshots capturing what appears to be a joyous celebration from the late 60's or early 70's.

It seems that this precious memento belongs to someone who might have accidentally left it behind.
