Our hearts are heavy today as we share some incredibly sad news with our Maxie’s family.

On Friday, June 12th, our dear friend, former General Manager, and previous owner, Andrew "Andy" Mayfield, passed away at the age of 46 after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer.

For nearly twenty years, Andy was the heartbeat of Maxie’s Supper Club. Many of you will remember him not just as the owner, but as a constant, welcoming presence on the dining room floor—constantly checking on tables, sharing stories, pouring drinks, and treating every regular who walked through our doors like family. He poured his soul into preserving this place, and it was only his health that led him to lovingly pass the torch to Anna in 2023.

Before his career in hospitality, Andy proudly served his country as a Military Police Officer in the Army National Guard, deploying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He brought that same strength, integrity, and dedication to Maxie's every single day.

More than anything, Andy was a family man. His wife, Wendy, and his beautiful daughters, Lucy and Cecilia, were the absolute center of his world. Our deepest prayers and love go out to them, his parents Peg and Lou, his sister Kiki, and all of his family and lifelong friends during this difficult time.

As we open our doors today, we do so in honor of Andy. The warmth, laughter, and community spirit he fostered in these booths will always be a part of Maxie's foundation. We are so proud to carry his legacy forward. Rest in peace, Andy. Thank you for everything. ❤️

Services Information:
For those who wish to pay their respects and celebrate Andy's life, visitation will be held this Thursday, June 18th, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at McLaren's Resthaven Chapel (801 19th St, West Des Moines), with a funeral service beginning at 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

For Anna, life has always centered around the kitchen. From family dinners to holiday entertaining, sharing great food and feeding people has always been her greatest joy.

After graduating from the Iowa Culinary Institute and spending years learning from some of Des Moines' finest—including working under Bob Tursi at the legendary Latin King—her deep love for honoring local history led her to Maxie's.

Anna's mission is simple: to restore and preserve this iconic landmark so that West Des Moines families can continue their own traditions of celebrating and gathering in the booths they love. Because to Anna, sharing a meal is love. ❤️
