Before I forget, what a great weekend we had at Racks with the APA 9 Ball.

Thanks go out to Doug Krus and all the players. It was nice meeting all the new people. And if I didn’t meet ya, thanks for being there!

Also, Brandy and entire staff did a great job taking caring of everyone. This coming weekend it happens again!

Good morning Rackers!

Morning coffee is more exciting today because I’m blowing off tree life and coming to Racks to play pool and hang out all day!

This is the day of the JJ’s Day Crowd Reunion! That’s the best thing I can think of to call it. Starts at Noon. I wish I’d have got on the ball and promoted this day more.

Im looking forward to meeting some new people today. Well play some one pocket maybe? 10 ball ring game maybe? There’s a great game called Six Pocket that they played at Harold’s out on Lake St. in Roselle, IL. It’s just like golf, except that each player has their own cue ball in addition to the regular cue ball. Their color coordinated, stripes are objective balls and solids are cue balls. So if you’re the 9 ball, the one ball is your personal cue ball. Get it? I’ll show ya.

I love this pic. Just saw it the other day on another poolrooms post and stole it. But check it out. This is what I envision and what I remember from hanging out all day in poolrooms most of my youth. This is what we need. When I say “we”, I’m talking about the Peoria pool community. We would all like to see Racks have a decent daytime pool business. Peoria has a rich history of pool and deserves it. It would be sad to see us not have daytime hours, and I think we all agree on that.

As it is right now, it makes no sense for us to be open in the daytime. But I’m determined to change that, and being stubborn is expensive but we pay rent for all those hours! I’d love to be open for breakfast too, so let’s not rule that out either.

Obviously summertime isn’t the best time to try to get our day business going but hey, it gets hot outside. The AC is on and beer is cold.

We just need a few people to support it and let it grow from there. Cmon down to Racks today or tonight! I’m putting in the open to close shift!

On a personal note, I’m missing the funeral of a dear friend to be there today. Went to visitation last night. Another lost to cancer. 😢 So friends and family of Theresa, sorry I’m not there today. Love yall ❤️

Hey Rackers, been wanting to follow up with ya regarding the recent post about ideas to get some daytime pool culture happening. Sorry so slow to get back.

Many good ideas and I appreciated the input. The first thing I did is reach out to JJs old day crowd via Tammie.

She got ahold of em and they liked the idea of meeting at Racks this Friday at noon.

I’m taking the day off work to be there and we’ll figure out some pool games we can play, share some stories and drinks and whatever. Brandy has promised some good food too.

We hope to make this a regular thing on Fridays at least, and let it grow from there. Come out Friday and join the fun.

Good Saturday morning!!! We will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day! The River-city billiards banquet is today! We hope everyone has a great weekend! Michelle will be handing our sarcasm like bank suckers today so if you can handle it head on down and join in the tourney!

What’s up Rackers? We are lacking the daytime pool culture that makes the pool room the cool place to be. I know Racks had it back in the JJ days. We need some help trying to figure out how to build that back.

Traveling to the pool rooms in my youth, it was my favorite thing to stop in the daytime when it wasn’t crowded, but there was some people there, many of em retired, or shift work people, or you’d have people stopping in after work to see what action they missed.

This was the best time to hear all the stories of years gone by and just enjoy the comraderie and bullsh*tting that defines the pool culture.

And you could always find a cheap game for practice or even make a little score.

We need suggestions. What’s it going to take? Do we need a host to stir it up? We’ve got Brandy and she’s fun!
Most days she’s pretty lonely in there.

Weve got a day rate $8 pool all day. We’ve talked about a senior league. We can get that going, need the people to sign up. But more than that, we need people just coming because it’s a fun place to be.

Where are my bored retiree union guys (or gals)? We’d like to try some retiree reunion days, entertain your group with some pool, food or even live music. There’s a lot of possibilities.

We welcome all suggestions or tag someone and help get this started.

Racks will open tomorrow, Tuesday May 19th at 1:00 I have to go get my kiddo in a cast but as soon as I get that finished I’ll make another post to let you know we’re open! It’s BBQ FRIDAY at racks!!! 4-10 get there early to get your bellies filled! The striking devil Kevin will be your host this evening! He likes Shaking his a$$ for smoked meat sometimes! So get there to watch the entertainment!

On the behalf of Racks, but also from myself personally, I want to express our condolences for the friends and family of Marco.

I first met him in about 1990 when I played pool every weekend all over the central IL area and we had many memorable battles.

Great guy, great competitor and he will be missed. I hadn’t seen him in quite awhile but I’m glad I got to see him at the IL Cup recently.
