Please continue to share Matthew’s story.

Even though Matthew is home, he has 3 felony charges and we are fighting for his full exoneration.

Matthew Rushin, a black autistic young man who has NEVER been in trouble sentenced to 50 years for a non fatal car accident caused by a seizure. He was not taken to the hospital even though the police officers recognized the seizures. Matthew was solely convicted on his echolalia. He repeated words from an angry man. He took a plea deal which he did not understand and he thought he would be coming home. After petitioning the Governor of Virginia for a pardon, Matthew was granted a conditional pardon for an early release. Governor Northam recognized the injustice with a statement in the pardon Mr. Rushin did not intend to harm anyone. Matthew was incarcerated for 27 months. I look to the positive aspect of this ordeal. Laws in Virginia and across the country have changed because of Matthew’s case. Police Departments are taking training to a next level with organizations such as . We must continue to advocate for change.

Our fight continues to his exoneration and return to a somewhat normal life.

❤️ Sniper is waiting patiently for a best friend. This handsome boy has made a tremendous transformation both physically and emotionally since being surrendered last Fall due to no fault of his own. ❤️

He was surrendered last Fall when his owner could no longer provide a secure living space for him. He was a chunky boy, weighing est 80lbs and had very little training. He was full of energy and love, but would often intimidate people due to his size and disobedience.

Fast forward to present day - Thanks to strict daily training and exercise, he is our best behaved boy who loves to please and responds easily to commands. He has a much calmer demeanor and can’t wait to spend time each day with his handlers. He’s even lost weight and is a healthy 65lbs!

He’s not phased by most dogs, but has never lived with others, so we are requiring him to be the only pet in a new home. He’s looking for a strong handler to be his new best friend.

Still Available and stressed in the shelter. She definitely misses having a home and human!

Mackenzie was recently found as a stray and surrendered to the shelter. We commend her owner for taking the selfless initiative to help find her a suitable home.

She is approximately 2-3 years old, fully vetted, and a very good girl. We are told she is a Pointer Mix and originally from a Shelter in Missouri. She is friendly (true Southern Belle), a strong walker, and knows some commands. She doesn’t seem to mind the other dogs in the shelter, and we are unsure of cats. Her ideal home will have a backyard to run and play in & someone home most of the day to keep her company.

Little 12 year old Emma entered OC Animal Care OC as a stray and was not claimed. A couple rescues expressed interest but did not execute their pulls, so OC called us in as back up!

Rebecca Baczkowski headed up to OC to get our girl. She is very sweet and understandably scared, but warms up quickly. She is only 6 pounds and is ready to live for the rest of her days!
