❤️ BEHIND EVERY GREAT ENTREPRENEUR IS SOMEONE WHO BELIEVED IN THEM FIRST.

For Alex Cruz, founder of Alex Latin Cafe, that person was his mother — Mama Doña Fredes Cruz. 🇭🇳❤️

The story began in Honduras, where Mama Doña Fredes cooked for her family using fresh ingredients, handmade tortillas, seasoned meats, and recipes passed down through generations.

After leaving Honduras in 2003 and eventually relocating from Miami to West Monroe in 2009, she saw something special in Northeast Louisiana: opportunity.

But she also saw something special in her children.

Mama Doña Fredes encouraged Alex Cruz, to start a small business and share the authentic food of their homeland with their new community.

He listened to Mama. 🙏🏽

In 2012, Alex opened Latin Food, with one goal: bring the authentic cuisine of Honduras to Northeast Louisiana.

And Mama brought the recipes. ❤️

Those same family traditions helped pave the way for what would eventually become Alex Latin Cafe, where Alex continued building on his family's legacy by combining authentic Honduran cuisine with another passion — Cuban coffee. ☕🇨🇺

Today, Alex is affectionately known as Northeast Louisiana's "Cuban Coffee King," but behind the entrepreneur, the restaurants, the food, and the coffee is still the wisdom of one incredible mother.

Mama Doña Fredes started something money can't buy — a LATIN tradition.

She gave her family more than recipes.

She gave them faith.
She gave them work ethic.
She gave them courage.
She gave them tradition.
And most importantly, she believed in them.

From Honduras ➡️ Miami ➡️ West Monroe, this is more than the story of a restaurant.

It's the story of a family. 🇭🇳❤️

And Mama Doña Fredes is still part of that story today, preparing the signature dishes that helped introduce Northeast Louisiana to the incredible flavors of Honduras.
