Happening soon: the infamous Wendell Misfit Prom is this Saturday June 13, 2026.
Here’s the details:
Date: Saturday June 13, 2026. Rain date TBA.
First and foremost, this is a benefit gig. We’re generating revenue for Good Neighbors, which is a local food pantry that could really use our help right now. So, tickets are $15 if you buy them at The Wendell Country Store or $20 at the door.
Background: This is an event that happens every other year at prom time. It starts off with an actual real-life parade that begins at the Wendell town common and ends at the Deja Brew Pub - who hosts the event. The parade has quite a reputation for it’s creative and imaginative floats. And anyone can participate. Just dress up in your best 70’s garb and randomly join in. Or just watch from the sides.
There is always a theme. This year it’s “That 70s Prom” (a take off from the TV show).
I’ll be performing in the parade on a “yacht.” By that I mean a boat all decked out in a Yacht Rock theme. (see definition below). Other floats so far include The Lockes Village People, and Peace Train.
Parade starts at around 6:00 PM. The whole trip is under a mile and takes about 15 minutes.
Once we hit the pub, I’ll jump off the “yacht" and head to the outdoor pavilion behind the Brew to perform as the opening act. FYI: behind that pavilion is a rather large fire pit area that stays active all night. Tons o’ fun.
My set starts at around 6:30 PM.
The headliner band is Carol Devine and The Mighty Fine - a multiple piece horn band that will be playing your favorite Classic Soul, Motown, Disco, R&B, and funky rock dance tunes. They go on around 7:30 PM.
We’ve got a change in the food department. Diamond Farm will not be able to make it. Instead there will be El Sotano Tacos, a Mexican food truck serving tacos and burritos. What’s not to like?
And finally, the definition of Yacht Rock:
Yacht rock is a term used to describe a specific type of soft rock that emerged in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
This genre is known for it’s smooth, mellow sound, often featuring complex harmonies and polished production. The genre evokes a sense of relaxation and leisure, often associated with the coastal lifestyle of Southern California. Think Steely Dan, Christopher Cross, The Doobies, etc…
